Scent control products for clothing

Just wondering what hunters think about these products, I'm now testing DeadDownWind. Do they kill odors on your clothing, boots, etc? Thanks!

GOOGLE; canine scenting ability.

A study I found used a couple breeds of domestic dog for testing. These dogs were independently put into a purged air-chamber. One specific dog "detected" [6]PPT ie;[Parts Per Trillion]of a specific tagant in air.

I'm of the belief a coyote's nose is just as good, if not better.

The only way[IMO] a human would NOT emmit scent. Would be, to be inside of a Class-A Fully Encapusulating Hazardous Materials Suit.

I used to spray my own scent control/cover stuff on my clothes when getting out of the car. Did it work? I don't think so, I still had coyotes wind me. So I started hunting in shorts and a T-shirt and not caring about scent control. Funny thing is, the results haven't gotten better or worse.

Just hunt the wind, sometime the coyotes come in the way they should, sometimes you get busted.

Ditto hunting the wind! Save the bux and buy something cool with it!!

coyotes can smell 6 parts per million. You can not fool them. Scent stuff is a waste in the coyote calling world. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I agree with all the above posts but I do believe you can sometimes mask the scent just a little. Instead of picking you up at 200yds this might knock it down to 100.

What you do is go out and strip a bunch of cedar. Then put it in a pot and bring it to a good boil. Now strain it through a cloth and put it in a spray bottle. Spray yourself good before every stand.

You can do the same with smoke.

Waste of time... Gotta have the wind or else the coyote is going to smell you regardless of what you do. Scent control clothing, masking scents, all that crap is snake oil medicine.

I'll use it for deer, with great results, but a deer's nose has nothing on a canine's. The trick with deer is doing a TOTAL scent reduction regimen, including using a washcloth and towel washed in scent free detergent/baking soda and air dryed (along with all your gear and clothing)on a clothesline. I won't wear any hunting clothes in my truck, and change when I get to my hunting area and change again before driving home. All gear is stored in sterile containers. I'll move slow going to stand to avoid sweating. I have a separate toothbrush for hunting and brush with baking soda and floss prior to every hunt. Heck, I even avoid spicy foods during bow season. Even after all that, I'll only hunt a stand when the wind is right, but occasionally a deer will still get downwind. A few get a tiny whiff, but believe I'm too far away to be a threat. By then, I'm drawn back and have a pin on their ribs. It may be extreme, but I have a pile of big racks as a reward for my efforts- all bowkills. None were taken before I started getting serious about scent control. If you tryed this for predators you'd still get busted and might get in three stands a day.
