Scope choice for Remington Model 700 VTR .223

I have a brand new Remington model 700 VTR .223 on order! Should have it in a couple weeks. I am debating on scope choices. I am leaning towards the Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 SF with the Nikoplex reticle. I will be using this gun for target shooting and coyotes. I want to stick with a normal crossair reticle for the target shooting. What are your thoughts on the scope and gun??

U.P., I think your choice for a longrange rifle and scope are very good. The MONARCH 4-16 will give you all the glass you need to see your target clearly and make an accurate shot. If you decide you only are going to shoot one kind of ammo you could also have a Custom Target Turret made that would allow you to turn the turret to your desired distance. Pretty cool feature. I have used the M-223 3-12 with Rapid Action Turret for 3 years and it is one of my favorite scopes. Nikoplex reticle that you want and the turret is set for a 55 gr. bullet at 3240 fps.
I have taken this combination to 600 yards on multiple occasions.

Leupold's glass is jap

FROM THEIR WEBSITE
Leupold uses foreign sourced components for some parts of Golden Ring products, primarily lenses. This is because at this time, there is no American manufacturer that can supply the quantity of high quality lenses that Leupold needs for its annual Golden Ring Optics production

I just bought a 223 VTR couple weeks ago 24in without break and put a leupold 4-12 CDs on it got the turret for my 55 grain varmegedons with my load and am Realy enjoying it

Thanks Barton Hege! I am really looking forward to doing some shooting with this setup! The only thing I am concerned about now, is the bolt knob/handle rubbing on the eyepiece of the scope when I rack a shell. I tried putting a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x40 on my Model 700 the other day with medium Weaver rings an the bolt handle rubbed just a hair. I changed the rings to Weaver high and it was fine. No rubbing. I am probably gonna stick with Weaver bases and I have ordered sniper tactical rings in medium for my VTR. Hopefully the Monarch scope will clear without having to go with high rings since I already ordered the mediums. Have you or anyone else experienced this issue on the VTR? I've been looking at some pics and I think I'll be ok, but was just wondering. Thanks!

I have. 700 sps tactical with a monarch 4-16x42. With factory scope caps I couldn't even open close the bolt without removing the cap. I put the uncle mikes caps and barely clear it. Nice scope I just wish I would have spent $100 more for a vortex viper HS. Shot one of those and I loved it! IMHO I was clearer and has so many more features.

I dontlike the m223 scopes large target turrets I went and played with them at cabelas and the turrets were to easy to turn and change your zero. Specialy if your out hunting. I like the leupold mark AR scopes. Nice low profile very positive click turrets. It was my second choice to the monarch. But now I really do wish I hadn't been such a cheap [beeep] and just got the vortex

I have a Leupold VXIII 6x18 AO with fine duplex on a Remington Mod Seven Predator in .223 and a VXIII 6x18 AO with Leupold Dot on a custom build AR15 in the SPR type (18" match barrel, free float 12" handguards with an A2 stock). I previously had it on a Remington R-15 VTR predator 18" carbine, but have since upgraded to the more precision custom rifle.

While some may not like the higher power, I find it makes the scope more versatile, allowing me to hunt coyotes with it at 6 power and then dial it up for whistle pigs and rock chuck reaching out to 300 plus yards. While I don't have them, you can get CDS dials custom made for the VX3.

Three things you should never skimp on: Whisky, your wife's anniversary present, and glass for your rifle.
