Scope for 17 hmr

I still use tye $29 barska that came on my savage. Its stacks holes no problem. Prolly grab a vortex 3-9 when I give it a facelift next year.

I've heard of the sweet 17, built by BSA, I believe it's 17hmr specific.

That is the only caliber specific scope I've heard of for the 17, but I'm sure there are others.

By no means am I reccomending a BSA however...

I had the same idea when I got my hmr, ended up with a plain ol' duplex on it...

Not 17hmr specific. But I put a burris fulfield II with the ballistic plex reticle on mine. The scope comes with charts for different calibers, and the bullet drop they gave for the 17hmr velocity matched almost dead on.

I have this (http://swfa.com/Weaver-4-12x44-4044-Rifle-Scope-P40586.aspx) on mine (Marlin 917VS). For the money it is a great capable little scope. It tracks well, is clear and the turrets are finger adjustable. I think Natchezss.com has them for $119.

I paid $229 for the gun about 10 years ago when they first came out. I was working at a gun shop at the time and got a good deal. Anyways, I felt that scope does the gun justice with 4x for the lowest setting which is good for close work and can still turn it up if I want.

Ya, they make scopes calibrated for 17hmr, 22lr and 223. People have good and bad luck with them. All I know is my gun will not wear one. They are basically in the same price range of the Weaver 40/44's anyways

Here are two other 17 HMR specific scopes other than the BSA.

I have no experience with either of these scopes but was thinking about them for my 17 HMR. Mine wears a mueller APV instead. (I love it btw)

I did the Sweet 17 once. That didn't last long since my rifle likes the 20gr. Gamepoints better and all the scopes were "calibrated" based on a 17gr. V-max. That was when I bought into that gimmick, I don't fall for the caliber matched sales pitch anymore. Get a good quality scope with clear glass. If you plan to shoot any distance, get target knobs and make a dope chart. It will serve you better in the long run. If you think about it, who's gun are they making the scope to match? One at sea level or one at 5,000 ASL, one on a 40° day or one on a 105° day, one with a 18" barrel or one with a 22" barrel, one with Hornady 17 V-max ammo or with CCI 20gr. Gamepoints, shooting uphill or flat? Think about it

Guessing on hold over is tuff, maybe I just need an M1 installed on the 4.5-14 x40.

I have a SWFA SS 6x Fixed.. It has the exposed tactical knobs and I made a dope chart out to 150yds .. This setup shoots lights out.. Consider the SS line of scopes from SWFA.. Great glass, solid construction...
