I bought this Monday night from Gander Mountain for $239.00 and comes again like some Savages with that junk Bushnell 3x9x40 scope as a package deal. I also have the Savage Model 93R17 BVSS in .17 HMR that I bought a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40 for it.

Should I just switch out the Buckmaster for the .22 mag or just buy another Nikon for it? Any help please and thanks!

Just buy another Nikon. Ive slowly been replacing all my rimfire scopes with whatever Nikon I can get for cheap from the classifieds. My 17hmr Savage is still wearing its factory Bushnell, works fine but i'll still change it at some point.

I'd get another Nikon and use the Bushy as a target. The buckmaster is great for the price. Even the cheaper Nikons are pretty good these days. I've got one of the newer Prostaff 3x9x40s on my 22mag and it's been great.

Don't know what they go for now, but I have had NO problems with my Bushnell Banner. IMHO, the perfect scope for a rimfire. What was it, like $99?

I'm considering the BB 1.5-5 for my 825.Midway has it for 76/free ship.I've searched out many reviews on it and it look's to be the best scope available in that price range.

Before you shitcan any scope, make [beeep] sure that all your mounts are tight and your rings are the right size. After you make your elevation and windage adjustments TAP LIGHTLY on the scope a couple of times with the butt of a screwdriver or something similar to settle in the crosshairs and sandbag your rifle so there is minimum movement when you shoot. Also check out your M O A ( moment of angle) For a .17 HMR it should be 0 (zero). A lot of mounting systems have a M O A of 20. Not good for a .22 or .17 HMR Also a stiff trigger pull will mess with you. I installed a Nikon Prostaff II rimfire 4-12 X40 on my Savage model 93 .17 HMR and have absolutly no problem with it. It is dead on at any yardage up to 250 yards here in Montana. I think I paid $120.00 for it at Cabellas. Also make sure that your barrel is free floating. Run a dollar bill between the barrel and the stock. If it does not slide free you need to take care of it. P.S Mount your scope as close to the gun as you can get it and set up your eye relief so that when you bring the rifle to bear your scope is positioned so you don't have to move your head to aquire your target. I also added a cheek pad and set it up with a little deal that when it touches the corner of my mouth my eye is in perfect position in relationship to my scope thus quick target acquisition is great.

Please explain " Moment of Angle"
Thanks

M.O.A. MOMENT OF ANGLE To my understanding it has to do with where your bullet ends up at a certain yardage as pertaining to elevation. As with most things related to firearms you must take into consideration the caliber and muzzle velocity and bullet weight when selecting your scope mounting hardware Generally speaking a M.O.A of 0 is used for ranges up to 600 yards and a M.O.A. of 20 is used for shots of 600 to a 1,000 + yards. If you want a scientific explanation Google it. I set up my Savage model 93 .17 HMR and a Nikon Prostaff II 4-12 X 40 with mounting hardware with a M.O.A. of 0. I can get groups of less than 1" at 100 yds. and At 72 years old I ain't that good of a shot anymore.

OK. I can't find any reference to Moment of Angle. This old beginner needs some guidance and my Google-[beeep] is weak. Can you give a fellow a link?

Tapping on the turrets of a $1500 to $2000 scope seems a little odd to me. I missed that in all the M/O classes.

I'm getting pretty long in the tooth. On this one I'm just an old neophyte setting at the knee of a new sen-si (sp)
