Scope for CZ 221 fireball?

The gun should be here in the next day or so. What do you guys recommend for a good scope that isn't gonna break me? I don't need anything w high magnification. And around the $200-$400 mark. Preferably the lower if possible. Thanks

Been seeing a couple nice leupolds on the classifieds in your price range.
Been shooting a redfield 4-12 with accurange been real happy with it so far on my 22-250 AI $259 I believe at C-A-L ranch store here in Idaho

A Bushnell 3200 in 5-15X would be a good choice for the little Furball. A Bushnell 4200 in 4-16X a tad better yet.

I have taken prairie dogs and ground squirrels as far as 300 yards with my .221 and that's about as far as I want to go with mine. 15 to 18 power plenty of magnification.

I have 2 scopes that fit your criteria. One is a Leuold vx1 4-12 x 40 (on a ruger 77/22 Hornet) with the long range reticle and the other is a Minox 3-15x42 that I just put on my 223.

I really like the LRD on the Leupold, as I don't like to dial the scope after I get a load worked up and the scope sighted in.

The Minox was on a close out and was a lot of scope for the money. According to the dealer, it has the same glass as the Zeiss Conquest. It is clear and tracks well.

I was already thinking about the leupold. My next question is I plan on replacing the bolt handle out for the newer version. So with that how low can I mount the scope? I'm not a big fan of higher rings.

Ive not seen the much on the new bolts, but Calhoon does bolt mods a ways north of me here in MT and with his you can mount it low. I would assume the newer bolts are the same way

I put the Mark AR MOD1 on my 221. The drop on a fireball shooting 40's is so very close to the drop on a 223 shooting 55's so I figured I would give it a try. I like it so far.

I had a 527 and ran med warn rings with a sightron big sky 3-12x42. It just barely cleared. It would not hit the handle even if you jiggled the bolt. You can look up their specs and that can give you a rough estimate.

Not sure how much lower you can go but once you have the new bolt and the old one you can measure the difference.

I have two CZ527s in .221 Fireball ( Actually, I own one, and the other my work owns, but it's issued to me ). Both have Leupold Ultra-Lites in 3-9x33. These little scopes fit that action perfectly. Both set-ups are with the factory supplied rings.

Good point.
Those petite actions really look like poo with a big scope (especially the American which your 221 is).
I'm a Leupold guy so I'd look to the VX3 in either 2.5-8 or 3.5-10 mounted in the med rings of your choice provided you swap bolt handles.
Second choice would be a Weaver classic. Excellent glass for the price IMO.

Here's an American (originally a 221) with 3.5-10 VX3 in med Warns for reference.
I wouldn't put anything bigger (size wise) on a 527 but that's me.

This exactly, I bought a Remington LVSF in 221 last winter and put one of the new Redfield Revelution scopes on it in 4X12 power, fits nice and shoots well, clarity on the scope is very nice especially for the price.Originally Posted By: Dogman223Been seeing a couple nice leupolds on the classifieds in your price range.
