Hey yall, i'm looking for advice on mounting a scope to my S&W M&P15 sport. This rifle has a fixed front sight post, and i'm wondering if i should replace the gas block or if there is a better way to clear the front sight post than what i already have. any advice would be appreciated.

Here is my rifle in its current configuration. I have a one inch riser and High Weaver rings.

It is up to you. I changed mine to a gas block. Mine has a rail. So, I can use a clamp on front sight. They also make a folding sight like you rifle has now. It is all in what you like. If you change to a gas block get a clamp on gas block not one with set screws.

You could cut the front sight post off with a dremel if you didn't want to buy a different gas block. There are some you tube videos that show how to do it.

I agree with lilysdad: the front sight isn't an issue. I have a leupold vx-r patrol 3x9 on my colt ar, and it doesn't impede the view at all. additionally, if the scope ever gets screwed up on a trip, you can easily go back to the iron!

The front sight will nit be seen through the scope. Have one with the front post and had an eotech on it with a 3x magnifier on it for a while and you would just see a fuzzy image of the post. Never had any issues hitting anything with it. Now the gun has a 1-4x scope on it now. Can't hardly even see it.
