Trying to tap into the expertise on this forum....

I am mounting a Leupold Mark IV 3.5 x 10 x 40 on my Remington 700 Police. I currently have a picatinny rail mounted on the gun. I also have currently mounted a Super Sniper with Warne Maxima Medium Rings.....here is my question the current scope looks like there is plenty of room to go with a shorter ring-I dont like my cheek to stock weld. When mounting this Leupold.....could I be okay with a low ring vs a medium? Am thinking of the Burris Tactical Extreme rings.

What is the height diff between med rings and low? Is this something I could measure before I order?

Not sure whether to choose the Leupy over the SS, the SS has 1/4 MOA elevation and windage, while the Leupy Mark 4 has 1MOA elevation and 1/2 MOA windage-so it wont be a surgical scope...

What are you going to use the rail for?
If you are mounting other crap besides the scope OK....
Just to mount the scope I think it gives you a little more clearance so you may be able to use low rings.

If it were me I would ditch the rail and get Leupold 1 piece Dual Dovetail base and medium "Dual Dovetail Rings.

I forget what the objective diameter of the SS is, but you should have some extra clearance(bell to barrel) due to the added hieght of the rail.

The tactical rail you have should work very well with either the Warne or Burris rings. The low rings from both companies will put the bottom of the scope tube .250 above the rail. The medium Warnes you are using are .375 high vs .500 for the medium Burris rings. If you have slightly more than .125 clearance between the scopes objecttive bell and the rifle barrel as it is now, you should be OK for the low rings. The Burris rings are wider and will give you less adjustment for eye-relief than the Warnes. Your picatinny rail should give you all the eye-relief adjustment you need in most applications.

i concur with the gents above- keep in mind the 50 mm is where you start to run into problems. requiring the taller rings. 40mm on a pic rail on the 700 should be a good fit with your set up- as long as you can float a piece of paper between the two so there is no slap. I have the EXACT set up on mine. if you run into problems - sorry but we tried- good luck.
