Currently I have Weaver mounts holding up a Nikon 3X9-40.  The heigth of the scope is 1 1/14" from the top of the rail to the center of the scope.  My problem which leads to my question is when I shoulder the gun I really have to dig my cheek into the stock to get a clear sight picture.  The higher the magnification the harder I have to dig in.  Target aquisition is difficult making a quick shot unlikely.  I understand the importance of a good cheek weld but for me this situation isnt working.

I feel more comfortable with a more heads up attitude.  I guess from the lack of drop in the stock?  I`m brand new to shooting AR style rifles so could be I`m missing something here.?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

So what do you guys use on your AR`s and is my predicament common?

Any help is appreciated.
