WVMIKE,I recently purchased an R15 in .223 & from the research I did I decided to spend my hard earned money wisely and went with the LaRue tactical mounts(QD LT-104 SPR)right from the start. I then put a Leupold (1-4, vx-1 shotgun scope: for the wide field of view) in that mount and am quite happy with this package for the woods & relatively short distances that Maine offers.Since this is also my first AR type weapon, I'm not sure what is causing the problem your describing other than you need a taller set of mounts/rings as some of the other guys have suggested.
