Scope or Red dot

Guys I will be hunting in woods and some in the field. I live in KY and from what I have read most of the time these things come in fast, and the two that I have called in both were running. So I am thinking a dot site or Bushnell Holo, what do you guys think? I will be calling if that helps any. Thanks again...Kirby

The Holo sight will work very well out to 150 yards or so. Things get kind of iffy past that, since the target looks so small.

I have the EOTech (same thing as the Holo, except it's got a different case), and if you run the intensity low, so it doesn't look like a blazing forest fire, it's amazingly accurate. That little center dot is tiny and there's no parallax error.

I haven't ever used a dot sight on a rifle, I'm not sure how well that would work at longer ranges. They're pretty nice on a pistol, though.

I wouldn't try to shoot past 100 yards with a Halo sight. If you put a magnifier behind it, that would change. But that set up might do what you need.

I'd be pressed to mount a scope on top and mount a small halo on a 45 degree cant for close stuff.

Why? It's at least as accurate as irons. Or would you not shoot those past 100 yards, either?
The military doesn't agree with that limitation.

I agree the EOTech/Halos are every bit as good if not better than open iron sites. My oldest son in TX has an EOTech (no magnifier) on his AR. I shot some targets last year at @ 100 yards. Great for beer can size targets, not so good for making those 1/4", all day long groups.

I liked it. It's a great sighting system if you use it for what it is made to be used for.

Exactly. If I want to go P-dog shooting, I put the scope on. If I'm in "lucky to see 50 yard" brush (and there's a lot of that here), the EOTech is quicker and accurate enough.
I'll shoot some 100 yard groups and post them on here once it warms up a little. 2 inches at 100 was about what I got last time, but I threw the target away, I guess.

Apparently I threw away all the 1/4" groups I shot with the scope, too, because I can't find a single one.

Alot of folks feel the Trijicon accupoint with the Chevron Reticle is one of the better solutions for an all purpose gun. I havent used one but would like to.
