seat height??

What height seat do you all use? Does it just depend on the terrain you're going to be hunting that day?

I've got a closed cell cushion which works great (keeps me dry, maintains circulation, and blocks the cold ground). But it doesn't sit me up at all, so I think I'm moving too much as a result.

I've seen some threads with small 1/2 chairs and even that one with a full size chair.

I used a cushion for 9 years. But after 30 mins or more on the stand my legs went to sleep , been useing a HSstrut turkey seat with the folding legs , it has a mesh seat and sits about 4 to 6 inches off the ground . Best thing i ever did,Just the little bit of elevation makes a big diffrence and no more cold feet and my legs dont get numb anymore .I do miss the cushion though it was a big help when getting over barbed wire fences .

I use this HS Strut seat exclusivly. It it the best seat I ever used. I've been thru all the cushions and pads...too low for this old guy. It folds up flat and has strap that goes over your shoulder. Don't even know its there I think it weighes about 2.3 lbs. Aluminum and webbing. As you can see the one set of legs are shorter than the other. That compensates for slants on the gound. I always look for a tree to set against cause that is the steadiest with my shooting sticks. I think they are about 14 bucks at BassPro....EDIT Jerry, we must have been posting at the same time...cool at least we think alike.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I use a canoe seat, like a stadium chair. Camo, has a back support. Like the Primos seat, but nylon and metal. That HS is nice but my back was jacked up by the end of the night. I mostly plop right down in high grass in a field so lower is better. You guys will like that seat alot better if you strap an inflatible seat cushen to it. the air pads that have the waiste strap. The waiste strap weaves right in the webbing. Stays put, they synch up tight. Makes that seat like a lazy boy, keeps your cester warmer also.

Where are you finding those? I bought one a few years back, but now I can't find another one. It's like a therma-rest pad with an air bladder and cap, right? I knew I should have bought 2, but figured they were easier to find. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I used a seat like peterjc shows in his picture last year. It worked, but if on a stand for any length of time my legs would fall asleep.

This fall I went on a mission to find the perfect chair/stool. I bought 3 and the one I now take with me the most is the "Alps" Turkey Chair.

If you look here , I did a little bit of a preview on some of the seats.

I usually just sit flat on the ground. I would like to get up a little higher, but I never feel comfortable shooting that way. Plus, I am 6'3 so sitting down isnt THAT bad.

I'm 6'05" & sit comfortably (& concealed) in the APLS chair...it only adds about 6" from being on the ground.

That 6" can add coyotes to your kill count when hunting in tall weeds or grass/ greasebrush.

Thanks again.

I've ordered the ALPS chair on STP for less than $11 (thanks to buying other stuff and free shipping). I'll have to paint it, but that will be good practice with some Krylon.

I love the stool I posted about however the only draw back is I have to find a tree or log or fence post to set against for my back cause if I just plop it down in the open, that 30 min stand on my back feels like 2 hours and I tend to squirm around a lot trying to get comfortable. BUT against a tree, I'm good to go for looooong time. I like that Alps chair rockinbar, but how much does it weigh?

The Alps chair weighs 5#'s. Put it over one shoulder & rifle on other and I am good to go. Not bad at all packing around.

I will try & get some pics of all the different stools/chairs that I have. Some are really comfortable & some are not, that is the worse thing about ordering online, cant try them out.

Went to our local Sportsmans Warehouse today, but they didnt have the Alps Chair. Going on-line, I found them at http://www.bigbucksports.com for $29.99. Anyone ever deal with this business? Sure need to fine something to keep the "hiney" off the wet ground and also for my old, wornout knees.

nevjohn thats funny I went to the Sportsman Warehouse in Mesa today they didnt have the chair either.
Someone that uses the chair I wondered if its noisy on rocky soil and can you use it on uneven ground or hilsides?
thanks, Sparky

I paid the $29.99 at Sportsmans Warehouse for mine at Thanksgiving, so if you find them at that price its a good deal. If you go to the Alps website, they show the price at $10 higher.

As far as noisy, I dont have rocks anywhere near where I call so cant say on that. As far as uneven surface, I have not had any problems. It is a very stable chair.

You shouldn't need to paint the chair as it comes in the neat camo pattern as shown in rockinbbar's picture. Maybe the black tubing frame could use a little color.

Mine needs to be painted as it is not the camo colored version. The trade off was price for color -- $11 for the chair shipped if you buy enough crap to have a $100 order then you get 15% off and free shipping.... but it is blue. I came up with enough excuses to buy that much stuff (kids' birthdays coming up).

My Chair has legs on it like the HS chair above and I am only about 6 to 8 inches off the ground. I went with one that has legs over one that has a solid bar do to the fact the solid bar will let it rock sideways on uneven ground. Thats just my opinion. Mine is an Ameristep Turkey Seat from Cabelas.
