The Gun Control Act of 1968. Made it mandatory that serial number be placed on firearms. Winchester, Colt and all the major arms manufactures had been numbering firearms for many years. They numbered firearms so they could keep records. Up until then they did not keep records of cheaper firearms.
Winchester keep number records of model 70’s, from day one. Same for 1894’s, 1885’s and many more. Serial numbers was set by the government during the World War’s for war production.
Take the Winchester model 67 and 67A single shot 22’s. The only one that was numbered was the exported firearms. Then, the 1968 Gun control act this also controlled serial numbers for class III weapons. Stopping all new serial numbers for class III weapons. Stopping the manufacturing of class III weapons.
The Gun “Control” Act. The word CONTROL was used to control not guns but to control us.
We need new Gun Laws to insure are rights not to take them away.
