is anyone finding any brown sheds yet?
friday i found 10 old white sheds and today i found 18. still no browns. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
the range is in such poor condition and the lack of snow has kept the deer out somewhere else. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif while i do see some local deer the main population must be wintering elsewhere. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
the big pine ridge they come down from had a big fire last summer and the drought and rabbit population has the range in very poor shape. last summer and deer season the deer were in poor shape. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif i haven't found as many winter kills as last year. this year i have only found one, last year i found 18 in one hike. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif needless to say shed hunting on this ranch is not going to be good this year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
the good news is the blm has stopped grazing on this ranch for the next three years or tell the drought breaks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
i have some other spots to try this year, might find elk sheds too.
 
I am just starting to see afew deer here loosing antlers and none of the elk seem to have lost them yet. I have nnot been out for sheds, but just paying close to a few of the bigger bucks and bulls around.
 
my little sister that is 5 found a fresh 2 point mule deer shed in our yard today! what a surprise she came running in and said "daddy i found a deer horn"
 
My son and i are going after elk sheds saterday on some privete land. it should be good, they said nobody has ever came and asked to hunt sheds before and i know the elk winter there. we have to go on foot and its really steep country so i hope to find as many as i can carry. it should be a great day out with the son even if i don't find much but i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've found 4 fresh ones. I found a huge 10 pt shed on January 7th. I don't see how you guys find so many in a day I hunt hard every weekend and all I find are a bunch of skulls.
 
the ranch i hunt coyote hunt on is the winter range for muleys in our area. i don't think anyone had gathered sheds out there before.
after three years of picking them up most the old white ones are gone. then the range is in poor condition so all the stock has been moved out and the deer didn't come down this year.
i'll find some from the resident deer but this winter didn't have the large wintering herds like most winters.
i don't think we had enough snow to push them down which is good because there wasn't enough food if they would have.
i'm searching new areas but they are not as good as this spot was. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
 
Took my 4 nephews out this afternoon. We managed to find a few. I havent been hitting it as hard this year as I normaly do and was starting to get the "horn huntin blues"
