I was wondering if any of you guys have Shepherd scopes, They look like they would be excellent to use with the built in range finders....

Any feedback would be welcomed!

Can't comment personally, but I recommend doing a search here and on other forums. They have been discussed numerous times in the past.

Thanks USA, took your advise and did find a little history here....Looks like just as many cons as pros...a guy might be better off going with a different scope. and use a range finder seperately.

Mathew- I don't have any personal experience with the Shephard scope but I do have a few scopes with rangefinding reticles.

My nightforce is a great scope but for rangefinding it leaves a little to be desired. So do most ranging scopes because you have to have it at full magnification for it to be accurate. Now that's great if you've got the time to locate your target, zoom up to max power, and range him, but chances are by that time he'll be 100 yards closer than he was when you started.

The other rangefinding scope I have is a Springfield Armory. That scope will accurately range at any power BUT, when you're on low power the crosshairs and ranging brackets are barely visible.

Pick your poison. I still use both scopes, but I don't use the rangefinders in them at all anymore. I use my laser rangfinder to range bushes and trees in the area when I sit down and just let the games begin.

Matthew7, I have one on my AR-15 and love it, killed a few coyotes with it as well. The range finding circles are pretty acturate to. I don't think you would go wrong buying one.

Thanks guys,

I've been kicking around the idea of a "nice" scope purchase and for some reason I had my mind set on a Luepold but someone told me about the shepherd...since then Burris has come into the picture with its ballistic reticle. ...now it's getting hard to find what direction to go too.
Kinda like when you flush a covey of quail...It's hard to just pick one out then go to the next shot....

Someday the laser range finder will be built into the scope...maybe they already are....hey if not could I still get a patent on that!! HA!

swarovski had a scope with a built in laser range finder. it was like a million bucks(or acouple grand) it was supposed to work well but the cost was prohibitive. it is no longer in their catalog so i think it discontinued.

A friend of mine has a sheperd on is .22-250 which I have shot with quite a bit. Personly I think that the reticule will disapear in low light. It gets quite small and fine when you turn the power down. It does work quite well, though.
