Shockwave charger?

Bought the 10 cell rechargeable battery kit with charger from foxpro and realized after I got it that when you plug the charger into the shockwave there is not a charge indicator light of any kind. It says to never charge and longer than 9-10hrs for fully discharged batteries but what about when they are not fully discharged? Foxpro recommends timing the charger, double the time used for charging, if used 2hrs charge for 4. I don't believe this is a very good way to insure my batteries are fully topped off. What do you all think? Should I use this method or buy a different charger. I really like what I read about the lacrosse chargerr but its just a 4 bay charger. Are there any good 10 bay chargers out there that charge each battery independently?

Check out the tenergy tn160 it charges 12 battieies at the same time and it charges each bay individualy according to how much each battery needs tells you when they are complete and stops the charge on each indivdual battery when they are full charge, also tells you if a battery has gone bad, great charger I bought mine from All Predator Calls check it out , I believe it even comes with 12 tenergy batteries wich are great batteries.

ck204 I just bought the welded battery pack for my new shockwave. If that's the one you bought, it has a red light that indicates charging and a green light that tells you when the battery pack is fully charged, and the guys at foxpro said it is also a smart charger so if you leave it charging it will cut down the charge when fully charged so you don't overcharge them.

I didn't get the welded pack, bought their 10 cell kit and charger that plugs into the front of the shockwave, wish now that I would have got the welded pack.

Yea me too. Is that the NiMH type welded battery pack or the Lithium Ion welded battery pack. I have the Lithium Ion welded battery pack but I didn't get the Li Ion Charger yet. I have that charger and another battery on order now. I didn't know that they didn't sell the LI-ion battery charger by itself. I had to buy another set of Lithium Ion batteries (Battery Pack) and the charger as a kit. Bummer! But I could use two of the Lithium Ion Battery Packs as I like having one as a back up. I already found that I forgot to turn the Shockwave off before putting it back into storage for a couple of days. The Li Ion battery pack inside the Shockwave was dead when I tried to use it two days later. I was glad that I had the other Li Ion battery pack as a spare. I was able to exchange the two batteries and use the Shockwave that day and then made sure to recharge the run down battery right away.

I just was on the GoFoxPro forum and found a thread where they were asking about the batteries for the shockwave. So I asked the question about a light on the Shockwave Charger or the shockwave that would tell you if you were charging or not. I think I figured it out now. The Shockwave Caller doesn't have any lights on it to tell you it's being charged. I'm not sure if the battery pack used to charge up the Ten NiMH AA batteries has a light on it or not. I've got one of them but have not used it yet. The ten AA NiMH batteries are still plastic wrapped together and have not been opened and used yet. I really don't need them anymore since I have the Lithium Ion battery packs now. I should return it or sell it to someone. But trying to sell it over the internet is not easy to do. Shipping and packing the device is problematic for me. Since I don't have any shipping boxes, packing material etc. I'd have to take it to a place to have all that done for me. And shipping it somewhere might cost more than it's worth. So I'm just going to keep it with all my other NiMH rechargeable batteries that I have sitting around in the drawer. They are a pain in that I have to either soft charge them back up ever few months or condition them again. And my battery charger for these AA NiMH batteries is only an 8 cell devise. It takes me two days to charge up all my AA NiMH batteries.

So I too would highly recommend to FoxPro guys that they figure out a way to make the Shockwave unit show you that the battery charger is working when you plug the FoxPro Charger into the Front Charging Port on the Shockwave. With all the other features that are on the Shockwave I find it hard to believe that they failed to put some kind of indicator light on the Shockwave to show that the battery charger is hooked up right and functioning properly. After all not one of the other many functions on the Shockwave unit works without good batteries in the unit.

I also would love to see this. For two years it's been a guessing game for me, and I refuse to leave mine plugged in overnight. The foxpro NIMH batteries have performed great for me though.

The safest, surest way to charge batteries is to do so outside the battery compartment. Relying on a light is not best. Batteries heat up as they near full charge status, and become pretty hot to the touch. If something happens to batteries while inside the ecaller, it can cause serious problems.

^THIS has always been my concern and can ruin a weekend of calling in a hurry.

I hate to knock Foxpro and rarely do but they definitely screwed up on the internal charging feature on the shockwave. A light at the minimum would have been nice, so you at least know for sure that it's actively charging. Especially for a premium unit people are forking out good money for, and then another $50 on top of that for the batteries & charger.

I like the FoxPro Welded TenPaks. They work great! Certainly easier to charge vs removing AAs from the battery holder and charging the batteries individually. I do remove the paks from the caller for charging.

There are lots of great electronic devices that operate using very user friendly (lithium) battery systems, charging fast from wall outlets, auto plugs & USB ports. ie. Cell Phone, GPS, Dog Training Collars, etc. A similar system to power an E-Caller would be great. I expect all it takes is money.

Well, not too happy with foxpro today.

I have the 10pk of Foxpro NIMH batteries and the supplied charger. Went to charge last night and noticed this... Probably could have caused catastrophic problems.

Contacted foxpro and they basically said i'm up sh*t's creek. They won't replace the charger under any circumstances and said I would need to buy the whole kit including the batteries for $50. They actually suggested to buy a separate charger and remove/replace all 10 batteries everytime which COMPLETELY negates the internal charging feature included in the $600 unit. Usually I stick up for them but that's pretty bad customer service in my book, for guys known for their good customer service.

For any others wondering, 6 month warranty on this sh*t Chinese charger.

EDIT: Don't lose your charger because it'l cost you $50 to replace it!

No trickery here...

I've had it for 1-1/2 - 2 years. My season only runs from mid-october to march and I really only call on saturdays so it really hasn't had much use compared to others. Just looks as if the cable is all dried out right where it meets the charger itself. Has always been stored inside.

Regardless, not offering at least a replacement is insane. They have the FOXPRO name on them, should stand behind the product. Had I charged it I could be calling them about a melted Shockwave.

they gave you good advice. and that is exactly what i would do. never could figure out why a person will spend 600 dollars on a caller and then cheap out and not get a decent charger for the batteries. you should seriously think about buying a good charger for the batteries. batteries will last longer and you will know they are charged correctly.

I bought the FOXPRO NIMH batteries and charger for the SHOCKWAVE, how are those NOT the right batteries? Even their pages for the shockwave suggests NIMH batteries, that's why I DIDN'T cheap out and bought FOXPRO brand set.

I thought that I did...

Not a fan of the idea of removing all the batteries to charge them. That would suggest the charging feature on the shockwave is a huge shortfall. So any old charger? Foxpro doesn't list one on their page for 10 batteries. Don't want to go out and buy one and have everyone say "oh thats not the right one." See where i'm going with this.

Just a huge inconvenience and more money down the tubes, not too happy about it. Honestly figured this would be a quick email and i'd have another charger on it's way.

removing the batteries to charge is not that bad.

another great feature of a good charger is it will let you know if there is a bad battery in the bunch. a battery that goes bad or will not take a charge is not uncommon. that FoxPro charger cant tell you if there is a battery that is no longer good. you would never know if there was.

i can suggest some good chargers for you that will charge 10 at a time. but be aware they run from about $50 on up. but a good charger will last you a long, long time and will help you batteries last longer.

Of course I can't be sure what happened to your charger, but that doesn't look like normal wear. Looks more like a varmint has been gnawing on it. In any event, regardless of the charger you have, you are better off taking the batteries out of the ecaller to charge them. It is the safest, most effective way. The FoxPro rechargeables are excellent batteries as our testing has shown.

Like STS said, I'd get a good quality charger that does a lot for you in the matter of battery care.
