Shoot Through Screens?

So I bought a ground blind last night and waterproofed it today. I also wanted to practice shooting out of it today and set it up and did just that. I was using field points, and practiced shooting through the windows that are supposedly shoot through. I shot 4 times through 2 windows, and 4 different holes in those windows. 2 shots at 20 yds and 2 shots at 30 yds. All 4 shots were high of my target spot. Do any of you guys know if this is common when shooting through these windows? Would it change if I was using broadheads?

Just Curious.

Thanks!

You cannot shoot field points thru the mesh it will not work well at all. Good sharp broadheads will go thru it like it wasn't there.I am not sure how many deer I have shot thru a ground blind screen but its numerous. There are some expandables that will work but I have not tried them as I do not care for them on deer.

Lets think about this. You shoot a field point through the screen you have a quarter inch hole roughly. Whats the next thing that contacts the screen?

If I were to shoot through the windows I would line up the flechings with the broadhead so both can hopefully go through the same hole cut by the broadhead. Better yet roll down a few windows a bit and wait for the right shot to present it's self. This way there is much less of a chance of varitables that can cause a bad shot. Last thing we want to do is wound any animal we are shooting no matter of what it is. This is strickly my opinion and I speak for no one else.

You're right about the fletching striking the mesh. However, if your "roll down a few windows" statement means drop the screens, that won't work for large game animals.

The black holes created by an open window...without a screen, does NOT look natural and large game animals pick it out quick. At that point they'll either shy away from the ground blind or spook and run, niether of which is good.

Small game animals, birds, etc. don't seem to mind or know enough to care. I've hunted groundhogs, geese, squirrels and ducks without any screens and open a window or two to shoot from and have had good success.

Forget the shoot thru mesh BS. Take your pocket knife and cut it out of there. I have tried it antelope hunting. My arrow that was suppose to go 50 yards went about 30 before it found the ground. I cut it all out and ding ding ding dead goats.

I take down my windows for whitetail deer in my blind, black inside and I have never had a problem.I just let them down about 4 inchs on a few select windows. Might want to practise a few shots first. As stated it is only my opinion of what I do.

Bowhunter57 is correct the black holes do spook the animals and make it easier for them to see the blind but only if you are popping up the blind and hunting it a day or two then moving it. If you leave it and let the animals get used to it the black doesn't bother them as much.

I never shoot past about 30yds(mostly 20yds) so maybe it will affect the arrow flight at 50yds I cannot speak to that but with a sharp broad-head and a tuned bow I cannot tell the difference in POI and the screens on the 8 Double Bull blinds I have are filled with dozens of holes in them that myself and friends have shoot deer thru.

Now that I think about it Double Bull on one of their videos show the guys practicing shooting thru the screens an shooting at longer ranges and thumping arrows in the bullseye.

Here is a typical setup. If you put a vertical black hole in the middle you see the issue.

Here is inside looking out. This video was shot thru the screen with a tiny pocket sized camera so its not the best but you get the idea. No I did not shoot either buck but I did take two does and a spike that day.
Thru the screen.

Notice anything unusual.

Thank you Sir! I figured it was not intended for field points, but I just wanted to see if there was any impact on how the arrow flew. Obviously when hunting I would use my broadheads. I am psyced about getting the blind out next weekend and hopefully getting something!!
