Shooting 22 LR through a nice .223 barrel?,

Guys,
I have been shooting a Spikes Tactical 22 kit through my crap 16" 1-9" twist Bushmaster barrel. I have always assumed that the 22 would kind of degrade accuracy, but didn't care because of the barrel. Also I have kept the kit out of my nice 223 barrel.

On to my next project and question. I want an 11.5" 1-12" twist D-tech SBR barrel. My thoughts are that the slower twist would make a fun suppressed truck gun shooting 40 grainers, and could put my 22 can and kit on and do better with the 1-12 twist. I don't really want to thrash my nice barrel though, so does shooting the 22's hurt them, or do I just need to clean more often?

Thanks

As far as I can tell it doesn't hurt anything. I've shot thousands of rounds thru a ciener kit in several 223 barrels and can't tell that it hurt anything.

Nope, they don't hurt anything as far as wearing out the barrel. If you shoot a ton of them and then try to shoot .223 it may short stroke on you the first shot because of the 22lr ammo is dirty and it can foul up the gas port. Normally one shot with a .223 or 5.56 will clean it out though.

It should not affect long-term accuracy. There will be some extra powder/lead in your barrel from the dirty 22LR but if you clean out the barrel if you shoot a lot of rimfire through it. I couldn't see how it would degrade accuracy at all except maybe the first couple shots as things get back to normal with 223.
