The photos will follow as soon as I get my camera back, the wife has stolen it, but within a few hours I will get em posted - sorry guys. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
Went out today and made a set, the farmers around us complain like crazy about these pests. The one guy calls me to book a date to shoot crows, he runs cattle, sheep and poultry and isnt a happy camper because of these critters. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
I said to my wife Sandra last night that we must go thin out a few in the morning if the weather holds as I had 2-3 hours grace before family matters take presidence over the day. So afforded the opportunity we gathered our stuff and drove down the road and picked a spot 12 minutes from our place. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
The area is a long line of trees with severe growth - small trees about 15 foot high, so we decided upon a place and parked the car, walked down and crossed a field, we set up 400 yards from the car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
I have a rule, I get all my stuff ready, calls, electronic, camo ready, shells laid out just right near me, branches to obscure the crows vision and set up below a tree with a HOLE in between the trees, that offers me about 20 feet across. I sit below that hole and when everything is ready I run across the stand spot, place decoys on fence and hurry back.
Its vital they dont see you putting up decoys, so I do that last, normally as in the case of today its about a minute before you pop the first, and they are confused and fly around so I got 3 on the first volley. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
After 5 minutes another group came over - wait wait wait - as they fly over the hole ( range 15 yards max) I let em have it. It took us about just on 2 hours to shoot 34-35. It may even have been 36, I was able to find 30, as in photo.
I was saying to Sandra last night we will shoot 30, so I was pretty spot on. Today I have a purple arm and must load up more shells, but I enjoy shooting these pests, you are doing good, they claim here that for every crow we kill we save 6-8 dozen new born owls, hawks and other bird life, including small wildlife......
Anyway, this is my last crow shoot till I entertain a few tourists next month, but will again sample the same spot! thats a fact. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Your camo must be good as crows see colour, and also face downwind as they approach with wind under their wings for lift, this all with a hot day and its pretty much a done deal /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Hope you enjoy the pics to follow - will get posted soon soon.
