I have a question for you all. I shoot everything left handed due to my dominant eye being my left eyed. Is there any danger shooting a right handed rifle, left handed.
I've done it for years . It's kind of a Pain in the a$$ when yu needa quick second shot but it cant be done. If you buying a rifle I'd suggest holding out for a left handed oen it's MUCH nicer to shoot with one the proper way. The only time I like a right handed rifle is when I Bench shooting. That way when I open the action the chamber is there faceing me and I dont have to load over top the gun. I dont liek shooting right hand semi autos either, rifle or shotgun. I always get powder comign back into my face. I knowother guys that it does seem to both me...it drive me nuts. I can't think of any dangers of shooting a right handed bolt left handed though.
I used to shoot right handed bolts lefty, but not any more, however I do shoot AR's mini's and savage 99's left handed and have never had a minutes trouble.

My grand daughter is in the same situation. I solved the problem with a Ruger #1. It can be shot from either side with no problems. It's not quite as quick as a bolt, but with practice....
She's 13 and can outshoot most boys her age, and believe me she enjoys doing just that.
I'm a lefty also.I've veen shooting right handed guns since i was 6.I'm now 33 and i think getting a left handed gun might screw me up when working the bolt for a follow up shot.I agree with TReX300 i don't like shooting semi-auto's that are right handed.
I shoot left handed and all my rifles are right handed although a couple have left ports. I never had a problem shooting them left handed. Any new rifles I build are right bolt left port.
Done it for years , my only problem has been when the AK or AR ejects and goes down my collar. Darn, that smarts for a second or two. Bolt guns are no problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I too am a southpaw shooting right hand bolts. Grew up shooting that way, seems perfectly natural. I like the open bolt face on my side of the gun. Tried shooting a left hand bolt and it felt akward to say the least.
The right hand stocks that have a cheek piece lip that curls over the top of the stock are a no no but you don't see to many of those now days anyway.
The AR's with the brass deflector have never given me a problem. The ones that don't have the deflector always have a way of throwing at least one brass out of a magazine down your collar. Needles to say they are hot and leave a very ugly hicky.
Nice to know there's others around. I grew up working the bolt of a Winchester 310 .22 with my left hand. My Ruger 10/22 usually finds a way to hit me with a least one casing (It's easier to just fire from the hip). I always figured it just comes with the territory.
SOMEDAY, I'm going to invest in a Stag AR/M4, a lefty Rem 700, and a lefty Rem 870.
I grew up doing it but switched to lefty rifles as soon as I could. I liked having the bolt on the right side on the bench but prefer the bolt on the left in the field. I shot SxS and O/U shotguns. Browning BPS shotguns are great for lefties too. Lever actions and falling blocks don't cause a problem either.
There is a safety concern with shooting bolts from the 'wrong' side. The gas port is right in front of your eye. If you never have a cartidge malfunction or case head separation, you'll never care. If it does, those nasties spew right back into your eyes and face. I know that we should always wear eye protection but when I was much younger, that rule was not always followed.
The gun industry says that 12% of shooters are left handed but left handed gun sales rarely exceed 3% or 4% of over-all sales. Many leht-hand shooters just opt to buy right handed guns and just deal with it. The gun manufactures
really don't have a clear picture of potential left hand demand because of the lefty's buying right handed bolts.
I believe there are more of us than the gun manufacturers think there are. We skew are own numbers out of necessity
to buy a certain gun or caliber knowing that it will be never offered in a left hand bolt. The true left hand picture is set up to fail.
Most of the major gun makers offer 270, 30-06 7MM Mag,in left hand long action and some offer a few short action
calibers as well. Savage does the best of any of the gun manufactures in long and short action in blue as well as stainless.
The main issue is the distributors that order the guns from
the manufacturers WILL NOT RISK inventoring left handed rifles because the dealers won't stock them and want the distributor to handle the inventory. This is why most left handed guns are closed out with-in 2 years of being produced
on special runs other than standard gun offerings. They make the guns one year and spend 2 years getting rid of them.
CZ is now offering the 527 .223 in left hand for about $100.00 higher than the right handed gun. From a production stand point this makes sense but they will be gone next year.
