Shooting Tables

Well folks, Father's Day is upon us, which this year means that I get to pick out something for myself because my wife wants me to have something, even though I just enjoy the time with the family, etc. But, I really would like to get my own little range setup so here is my situation. I have a nice field on our farm with multiple little rises from 50-500ish yards that can all be used to set up for distances from the mouth of this field. The field is about 200 yards from the farmyard though, so I would really like to have a shooting table with seat that matches it that can EASILY be stowed in a corner of the shed or barn, and then thrown in the back of a truck or 6x6 atv and then set up at the field without tools, etc. I obviously want this to also be all the things a decent shooting rest needs to be; stable, adjustable, big enough for spotting scope and ammo. Any suggestions? I'm not opposed to spending a few shekels. I just want it to be on something that will work and last. Thanks.

Are you sure that you wouldn't be satisfied building one out of treated lumber & just leaving it out there?

This would mean that you could make it as big as you'd like, plus it would always be ready to shoot off of.

Concrete tops are another option for a permanent setup. If you have access to a loader tractor, a heavy shooting table can still be easily moved. Just food for thought.

Total weight: 60 lbs.
Maximum user weight capacity: 300 lbs.

I do not own one but have used one at Duane@SSU's Ranch for shooting sage rats. It was very stable.

I would give it a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Nice thing about it is that it only has three legs which are adjustable and will set about any where you put it.

I have a couple of Fold up shooting tables that are good and steady if you the ground is soft enough to make all the legs set solid. They are not as many dollars as the Caldwell. I don't see any labels on them so can not say who made them. I got them at the Old Sportsmen ware hose ( now Wholesale Sports) I Portland Oregon.

But if you set it up on the same spot you could get either one to set very stable with a little shoveling. No Adjustments for seat height or any thing else.

Ricky,

I have had that thought, and I guess its still possible that I go that route. My main hangup on that is that I would like the option of doing some shooting at a few other places for woodchucks, etc. and thought there may be one magic bullet. I know that's probably just a dream though. :p

I just recently built my 1st permanent shooting table on my place & should have done it a long time ago. It turned out really nice! Very stable & it can accommodate right or left hand shooters. I decided to not build a seat integrated into it, so that you can simply use a stool or seat that will match the shooters height accordingly. Don't have very much cost into it, either. I've also seen some nice plans for homemade, portable shooting tables. I doubt they would be as sturdy as something built off of 6x6 post, though. The heavier the better, in my opinion.

+1 on the Caldwell Stable Table. I just got one for $179 shipped from Optics Planet it not to bad its not the BR Pivot but its half the price and weight.

If you are apposed to building a range table out of concrete, Then for something mobile and "steady" I went to the local Mega-lo Mart, and bought a folding table. It is stable enough if you take a small amount of time setting it up and has ample room for two guns and ammo.

All the chair/table combo's are a waste of time and money IMO. Build it as permanent or go with what works with out the gimmicks. Just something to think about.

There's always the "Booger Bench".
Plans are everywhere on the inter-web.
For a hard core PD'er the more expencive swivel benches are allot better, but for the two or three days a year I use mine it works fine.
This one cost me about 35.00 with parts from Home Depot.
Plenty of money left to build a proper concrete bench at the house if you want.

I also bought one of those 5gal buckets with the padded swivel seat. Works great, and carries allot of gear.

I also have the stable table, built good, works good. I just went to gander mountain and asked about the floor model and they gave it to me for 100 bucks.

The Stable Table is very good. I have no regrets at all about buying mine. It stays in my truck at all times under the canopy so I am always ready to shoot. We have two different ranges on our farm so it is nice to be able to move it.

That said, sounds like your situation is the perfect spot for a nice concrete bench. Nothing more stable than that.

Big Game Swivel Action Shooting Bench. $130.00 from macks.

If you want to buy one ready made, this has worked well for me. I use bags when I shoot off of this table. I weigh about 240 and it supports me fine. Have used it about a dozen times since the first of the year. I use a stadium pad with the back attached by nylon straps over the regular seat.
