Shot the Ruger SR-556E Yesterday

I got my Seeadler 4-12x50 mounted in a Burris PEPR on my Ruger SR-556E over the weekend. Took it out yesterday to sight in and plink a little. I was shooting Hornady 55 grain soft point factory load.

First shot at 100 yards, 12" low. Second shot, 6" low. Next 5 shots into the bullseye and can cover with a quarter.

I set up a new Target and fired a slow 5 shot group. These 5 shots went into 3/4" dead center. Needless to say, I was pumped.

Moved out to 225 yards and fired a 1.2" group of 5 shots off of sand bags.

Spent the rest of the box of 50 popping soda cans from 50 to 350 yards. I really like the rifle and was impressed with the first outing!

I love it. I would compare it to zeiss diavari glass. I don't say that lightly either as the diavari is my favorite scope I have ever used.

I have to do some more accuracy testing for consistency in groups, but I was somewhat surprised for it the be a 16" barrel.

I will try to get some pics up. I didn't take any of the targets.

I have to get a picture hosting website account.

Mine likes the 55 grain Hornady Vmax. Good yote round as well. It shoots almost that good (0.5- 1.1 inch groups). Definately very accurate for a little 16" medium weight barrel. A little better glass (or shooter) could probably tighten things up. I havnt tryed the soft points but maybe I need to. Saw them in 50 packs at the store the other day. Gun definately runs cleaner than my direct impingment AR 10.

The store gave me this box of 50 Hornady SP with the gun so I thought I would try them. Then I started going through my reloading stuff and found 750 of the Hornady Spire Point with Cannelure 55 grain bullets so I am glad it likes them!

I am going to load up the 55 grain soft points and some Barnes TTSX bullets as well.

To me they feel no different in recoil. The Ruger is right at 9# due to the big scope and PEPR mount. I could probably stay around 8.2# with a VX -R Hog and leupold mark 2 mount.

Naturally my 9# gun is going to recoil less than a 7# gun.

I'd believe the OP's story if there were pics

Yes good report. Are you planning on running it suppressed? I am curious about these rifles. Seems like a nice rifle. Would also like some pics if you get around to it.

Yes - I am going to take pictures this weekend hopefully.

I plan to buy a suppressor sometime in the next year. I am working to create a trust now and will have to get all that in order before I buy one.

Mine likes the 55 grain winchester varmintX but not the 55grain soft points, it was night and day shooting one load than switching to the other
