Shotgun question

My Son has recently got his hands on my Rem 870 supermag, so its time for me to get a new shotgun. Im looking hard a a H&R Pardner pump in 12 ga. Dont know much about this gun but it seems to be made very well. Almost a 870 clone with a hump back receiver. Anyone have any experience with this gun? The price is about 150.00 cheaper than the 870.

You get what you pay for. I believe they are made in china. If it breaks you will probably have the cost in the gun to get it fixed. My father-in-law has a pawn shop and I have tore one apart to check it out. It is a close copy of the remington trigger group. Other than that I don't have much more on it. Never shot it.

They went on sell a few years back at local shop. I bought two of them just to beat with. And beat with I have. They are decent but I don't think they are in the same league as the 870. I'd save a few dollars more and get the 870 if it were me.

Handguns are the current rage, plenty of slightly used shotguns for sale. I'd look to the slightly used market & jump up a rung or 2 in quality.

If you look at where the slide arms are connected to the slide, you'll see that they are brazed/soldered. No telling how strong that connection really is. That's the only thing I'm not a fan of in these guns. Other than that, they are solidly built. They are an 870 clone, b/c remington bought H&R out. I don't know what choke tubes they take, but I don't think they are Remchokes...may be harder to find other tubes if you want something other than the Mod it comes with.

Agreed 870 is the way to go. If or when you ever needs parts or want to upgrade something on them they are way easier to deal with or make go bang.

870 has been around this long for a reason....it works.

I've got a 870 supermag, and kinda wish I didn't.

There really are very few times that I need the 3.5" and it's a lot of weight to haul around when you don't need it.

Just my .02

Biggen0 has a good point, but since I use my own shotgun just for coyotes, I use the 3&1/2" #4 BUCK a lot. I chose a gas operated semi auto because that action softens felt recoil somewhat. My Beretta A391 Extrema2 is expensive, but I bit the bullet and shelled out the big bucks.

I noticed the brazed connection on the action bars. This is why I didnt walk out with it. Thats the only thing I could find wrong with the gun. It pointed better than any other shotgun Ive shouldered but I havent had any good luck with foreign made firearms and now pretty much buy American, but the H&R is worth a look at 190.00 new out the door. I will probably get another 870 in camo. Most times you get what you pay for.
