Side Charging Handle?

I have found that operating my charging handle around my scope is kind of inconvenient. I saw an article that had a gun with a side bolt, like on a semi auto shotgun or the ruger 10/22. I think this would be handier than pockets on a shirt. can anyone tell me where I can find one? can I just install it on my AR with no other modifications? what are your experiences with them? thanks!

There are quite a few out there. Ive built several with them as well. You'll need a new upper receiver, a side charge one.
Pitman has a side charger from a company called ASA here in AZ. Very cool design, but expensive and they seem to be out of stock a lot.
LAE makes a left and a right side charge one, i've used those quite a bit too. I like these a whole bunch.
2 other companies here in AZ are making them as well, one had a side charge and a standard charging handle, very cool design.
 
Your looking at close to 365.00 just to buy the side charge upper with carrier and 5.56 bolt. Alexander Arms makes a very nice side charge upper and you can also have a standard charging handle installed, those cost a bit more and do not come with a bolt. LAR also makes a high quality upper, BCG is complete with 5.56 bolt. I wish all of my ARs had a side charge upper
 
a reciprocating side charge upper(left or right) is a $100 upgrade for my uppers and complete builds. It also has a chrome bolt carrier for ease of cleaning.
 
I had a nice ADCOR in my hands yesterday at a local shop. It has the rear charger and the side charger on it standard, and the side charger can be swapped from right to left with the push of a pin. JP rifles has some really nice side chargers also.
 
I have handled 3 side charge uppers 2 with LAR and one with Mega Machine. Got the Mega thru Rainers arms. I liked it better then the LAR but bot were nice.

Have you used a different scope mount like a RRA or Burris?

Or a tac latch??

that said the ASA side charger looks friggin' awesome!
 
550.00$ for the upper receiver and bolt. OUCH

My next build will be a side charger, but I guess not one from ASA.

The LAR Grizzly looks better and if It can be found in stock is more reasonably priced.

They Look Cool. Are the worth the extra $, to some probably not to me Yes. Asa side charging is the only way to go. I dont like the reciprocating right handed ones. I have 2 SD ARs that are both side charged with ASA and a 6WOA on the way thats waiting to get an ASA side charger on it.
