Side charging handles. Advantages?

What are the pros and cons with the side charge setup? A friend bought one and never put it on his gun. He has everything needed to make the switch.

Btw, I'm thinking of buying it from him.

Do a search on Side Charging Upper Reveiver here on the site... I should be getting mine in the mail this week... I got a lot of good suggestions and photos when we covered this a few weeks back... Give me a PM and I can give you an idea on prices and availability since I just recently experienced all this fun stuff!!! I like the looks of them as well as its away from the scope so no issues with charging handle being in the way. Easy to cycle while prone... Did I mention that it looks "killer"!!!

I like the one I have a lot. Only real advantage is it allows you charge your rifle easily with a bigger scope mounted. Plus it has a high cool factor...

I have an ASA side charger and it is awesome! My buddy wants that rifle, and keeps bugging me trying to get me to sell it to him.

Thanks all. I had done several searches before posting. I'll pm you field medic, when I get a little more time.

So pretty much easier to charge in several different ways and it looks really cool.

AND IM BUYING IT!!! Hah

Plus I just realized you can hunt with cans in OK now and will be adding one ASAP. Although that may be a long time!!

If you have adjustable gas block, shutoff gas and cycle manual for suppressed subsonic very quiet. Much faster with side charging handle, keep target in sight while charging with right hand.

if you catch your brass you will need to modify the catcher I shoot a fire formed wildcat and need to keep all my brass.

You got any pics of this? I need one for my side-charger.
