Sightron Scopes?

Just wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences with the SII Sightron scopes? I'm looking at getting a 17 hmr and pairing it with a 3-9x42 SII for anything from squirrels to night time fox hunting (head shots only.) Any other recommendations between $200 - $250?

Thanks,

Mike

I am looking at getting a Leupold VX2 2x7x33 with the Leupold dot reticle and matte black finish. This will go on my .17 HMR too. I have heard only good things about the Sightron scopes too.

I have 2 Sightron scopes (SII 3x12x42MD and 4x16x42MD) and I have been very happy with both of them. I also own a pair of their binoculars (SII WP1242) and they are excellent and was only a little over $100 when I bought them.

I think their products are an excellent value.

You need to think some more about buying your glass. Buy the right good stuff and it will last you longer than the guns do. If you use your head you can figure that on buying scopes you cant afford anything cheap. Only way to go is a Gold Ringed Loopy. Go loopy or go home. You can take that to the bank.

I know what you mean. I think most people on this board have made some bad purchases in their life, but I've also learned to educate yourself and you find out that you don't always have to go with the most prestigious brand or the most exspensive. There are plenty of opinions on this board and I got enough to trust that the Sightron may be the best for me. It's got a lifetime warranty and even if you send it to them, they say it's a 24 hour turn around time! I especially like their ExacTrack for more forgiving adjustments from zero. I guess I'll go home now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Spirit ,

Where do you think Luepold gets its glass. The company that makes Sightron. If you do not believe me , do a little research into a company called Asia Optics.

MikeH,

Sightron has a lifetime overe the counter warranty. That means if something is wrong with it , take it to an authorized dealer and they will replace it with a new one( you do not have to send it in ), no questions asked. This even applies to those scopes that are bought by mailorder. To find a list of authorized dealers in your area go to Sightron.com and look up you state.
I have and still own several Sightron scopes. The quality of the glass(for clarity), the dependability of the tracting system, and the warranty make it one heck of a buy IMHO.

PS. you might want to look at the SII 3.5x10x33 compact that Sightron makes. It is a real good little scope with good light gathering abilities.
I had one on an AR-15 that worked real well before I realized that my eyes were going bad.

Sean,
Thanks for the info! I was wondering if I would be helped at any local dealer if they were not the seller. That's good to know.

Dan,
Not a bad poll. I just wonder how many of those people have simply never owned or heard of Sightron. It would be a neat poll for someone to bring to this board.

MikeH...Don't get to little power in that scope. Litte targets are eaiser to hit if the crosshair doesn't cover it up. I have a CZ 452 in 17 HMR and feel at least a 12 power on the top end of a variable would be adaquate. Just my thoughts...Kren

Mike,

You're right, it would be good to post a poll here as well. There are about a half dozen users of Sightrons I'm aware of at snipershide, but many more Leupold users. That's why Leupold might seem over-represented there... But the Sightrons are quickly garnering a stellar rep, it seems... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't own any Sightrons, for the record. I might make my next scope a Sightron, however...

Well have only had one Sightron. SII 6-24x 42mm with target dot. Had top quality glass with great resolution. Wonderful 1/8 MOA adjustments that really work that way. Tough, tough coating on the scope tube. And wonderful 720 degree AO that would focus the thing right down to(actually a little less than) 10 yards.

However, it had mediocre coatings. It wasn't very bright, and it would either glare on the eyepiece or in the scope if the sun was low in the sky. If trying to use at night, any light to the side or behind you caused problems. I really liked the scope for target work, but if the low mag SII's are the same, you can do better for something you might use at night or for other hunting. A Nikon Monarch, Burris Sig, or Bushnell Elite 4200 would be better choices for those uses.

I am a gun dealer here in Utah, and we sell Sightron scopes. The best thing about them is the warranty on them. Life time over the counter!
