sights for Ruger MK III

I shot my ruger the last couple days. Picked up a truglo holo sight ( junk).Tried a regular scope with normal reticle. It was cheap and again ( junk). Seems I do best with iron sight. Two questions. Whats a good group at 15 to 20 yards with iron sights?
Can I replace the sight on this hunter with the MK II sights? This hunter model has a V rear sight and fiber optic front. I dont like the V. Im more use to the normal square notch type rear sight and front blade.
Thanks
Daryl P.

So where can I get the regular iron sights for a MK II? I want to change the V notch rear and fiber optic front on my new Mk III.I checked brownells but didnt see anything that specified ruger Mk II or III.
Thanks
Daryl P.

Try Midway. I saw some rear sights for the MK II but no front sights. I'm sure they have something, I just can't find it.

Go to rimfirecentral.com and search the MK III section for gab about sights. You can look that up on your own. As to the question about what is a good group; benched at 25 yards 1” groups are completely doable with some applied trigger control, sight alignment, and happy ammo.

Go to Ruger's website and go to Shop Ruger. They will have the sights you want on there. I just put a Vortex Spaarc on my MK III Hunter, and it shoots very well.

I have the grampa MKI

The Ruger's Mk line are tack drivers with factory sights..

I would not change a thing...

IMO - if it ain't broke - don;t fix it,

p.s. at 15-25 yards - Bullseye is acceptable easily attainable with proper aiming techniques by the shooter,

I also have the hunter and I also don't like the fiber sight for targets.I put the square notch blade and square front on mine and shot paper better.I got mine from ruger. You just need to talk to them and be sure to get the right height front.Go to Ruger website and to tech and call those guys and tell them what you want to do,they will hook you up.

I am shooting the 'el cheapo Federal 550rd bulk pack from Wally World out of mine. I take that back, it's not so cheap anymore......Used to be......

The standard "target" model uses a square notch rear and a solid blade front. You should be able to pick a set up pretty easily. Lots of folks (like me) dump the front blade for a fiber optic. The rear is a bit harder to find used, but I'm sure Ruger will have them.

Have you shot it on paper? What kind of group can you shoot with it and what distance? Im having trouble hitting a 1 in orange dot at 20 yards. That does not seem right to me. I always prided myself in pistol shooting.Sunday I shot my Taurus 1911 45 acp off hand at 20 yards and 4 shots toiuching and the fith was 1/2 in away from them. I dont really think its me with the 22. Maybe I got a bad one?I feel that I should be able to hit a quirrels head at 30 yards with a decent 22 pistol. Am I asking to much?

I found the fiber to produce about twice the group size as the square.I think for hunting and faster shooting the fiber might be better, that's what it is for I think.I don't remember what the front sight cost from Ruger but the back blade was 2.50.There are some instructions and maybe a video on the net about changing the blade. It is easy to do if you use the instructions. It has a dimple that needs to be the right way and a couple little things to watch for. There is a spring to not lose and that little screw but it is not hard to change if you use instructions. They will know at ruger all about it as there must be a lot of people change them out one way or the other.

I use my mkiii mostly for shooting steel matches. When I do use it on paper it's at about 15 yards using large paper with 1" dots in various configurations to resemble a steel course. Since I'm after speed, close is good enough most of the time.
