When you put them on, I would greatly suggest the following to prevent damage to your stock:
1- make sure the location you are putting the stud is centered and mark it with a pencil or something that will easily wipe away.
2- tape off around the area you are going to mount the stud (to prevent scratching while making a pilot hole)
3- make sure you use a new sharp drill bit to make a pilot hole. I personally try and use a drill bit that is 1/2 the diameter of the swivel stud's screw.
4- once you have the pilot hole drilled (and not at the wrong angle) you can start screwing in the stud. Last time I did this, I used a nail to put through the swivel hole to allow for easier twisting without needing to use pliers to grip the swivel stud (so it formed a T that I could hold).
This is how I personally did this. However, I'm sure there is plenty of good advice on a proper mount.
