Smith & Wesson M&P

I bought my wife one in .40 S&W for Christmas. It is very smooth operating gun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif This is my first experience with .40 caliber, I have shot a 10mm quite a bit and they are supposed to pretty equal calibers. If this is true the M&P has very low recoil in my mind and by far one of the funnest guns I have shot in a long time. I bought her the full size model, and I am considering getting the smaller model as a CCW gun. The only draw back is there is no actual safety on the gun, it has "two stage" trigger somewhat similar to a Glock. I am trying to get a friend to loan me a XD so I can do some comparison shooting. One other nice thing is the interchangeable back strap on the grip. I am 6'2" and my wife is 5'6" and we can change out the backstrap to fit us both. This gun also points very naturally for me. IMHO this is an outstanding firearm and I think most people would enjoy owning one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have the 9mm full size version. This gun comes with three backstraps that can be changed to fit the shooter's hand. I took this one to the range and use the smallest grip as I have small hands. After shooting it some, I sent it to Burwell's Gunsmithing and had a trigger job done. Now, I have something. This is a very reliable pistol and for the money, you can't beat it.

The M&P is my fun gun. I bet my life on the P229 everyday and could easily put the M&P in that category. The M&P is half the price of the Sig.

Go to a rental range and rent one to see what you think. Smith and Wesson is making huge money on this gun because police agencies are giving this gun to their officers and the scores are going up on average about 20% per person. To me, that's pretty impressive to be able to make a blanket statement like that. Several local police agencies in North Carolina have gone to the gun including NCDOC, Roanoke Rapids Police and many others and Raleigh PD is currently testing the gun.

Good luck to you.

My nephew has a full size 9MM and it's relly nice. It felt as good as any pistol I've ever handled and was very accurate.

I have the M&P in 9mm. I have to agree with dawgkiller's comments. Fits nice, shoots nice, very reliable and not too expensive.

The M & P has a much tighter chamber than the Gocks and a better factory trigger. It is nice to be able to change the grips, also.

The XD has a much worse trigger than the M & P.

My brother has the 9mm Compact and full size, 40, and 45, they are all very accurate with hand loads. They digest any kind of ammo...they never jam.

The Old Fart in me is kicking in, I saw the post and couldn't fiqure out what you were talking about. The S&W M&P was a K-framed fixed sight 38 Special, no rib or ejector shroud.
