Smokeless Powder Descriptions?

Hey Gang,
Would any of you have a link where I can go to read up on all the different smokeless powders that are available?
I used to have a reloading manual that described each powder (ball, flake, extruded), pros, cons and listed some of the more popular cartridges it was used in. I seem to have misplaced it or discarded it due to its age.
I've searched the internet and I'm always brought back to the powder manufacturing companies.
I'm doing this more for informational purposes as opposed to trying to find reloading data.
Thanks in advance.

Ballistic Products has a "Powder Manual" which has some pretty interesting information about the various shotgun powders, including recommended shot charge weights, optimum temperature ranges, ease of ignition, energy rating relative to other powders.

It makes very good reading if you load for and shoot a shotgun under less than optimum conditions.

CDR,
What you describe is much like what I am talking about.
Although the one you mention is geared towards shotguns, the one I had was geared towards rifles.
I have been a link to what I'm after, I just can't seem to find it.
Thanks for your input.

Most of the loadbook manuals have a list of all avalible powders on the back cover they are listed by burn rate slow to fast, or fast to slow. I don't recall what but it says how they are listed I don't recall if it has any info as to type extruded, ball, ect.

Here's a link to Varmintal's website, which has the burn rates over most powders, ranked in order. It is also a very good sight for a variety of other information, too.

It doesn't contain any particular recommendations as to what powders to use with which rifles, though.

I do remember seeing such a chart, with recommendations for various powders to be used in different calibers and with different bullet weights, in an earlier Varmint Hunter magazine. Perhaps, that's what you are looking for? If so, contacting them may get you the information.
