Sneak Attack

I am knew to predator hunting, and was wondering how concerned I should be about Coyote's sneaking up from behind? Has this ever happened to any one, and resulted in injury?

Yes, my pride gets injured every time I find fresh coyote tracks near my stand.
Coyote saw me but I didn't see him.
Painful.
Seriously though,I wish I could get them that close.
I'm not good enough to get stepped on by a coyote but a hawk nearly got me a few months ago.

Happens often. They will even walk right past your trcuk a time or 2. I have not had it yet, but I am still waiting for one to pee on my tires while I am on the stand. That would be a hoot. Last weekend I called we had out 11 called show up the wrong way (behind us). Set up where you think they should come then be ready for em to show up every where.

I had a p-o'd dominant male jump over me from behind on the way to an electronic call once, and had another spray rocks on me as he turned to go, but have never been "attacked" or heard of anyone else being attacked either. I just don't see any coyote without rabies attacking a grown human, and I don't give it a second thought.

On the other hand, calling in cougar country tends to keep me backed up to a big tree or a rock.

You should have no concern at all.As stated before IF you get one that close you are doing something right. If one lands in your lap it's going to try and get away almost as fast as yor are.LOL

How about bobcat? I mean one of those could tear you up trying to vacate. In GA you can't use e-callers on fox and bobcat. I'm a little apprehensive about calling for those alone. I want someone along to watch my back. But a bobcat could come in while calling for coyote. I use a remote e-caller for that and to save what little hearing I have left.

Huntersdaddy, Welcome to PM, thank you for your service and Semper Fi.

I had one step on my toe once. She bolted once she knew what she stepped on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifI never had one sneak up on me...... that I know of. Most times they are coming in quickly. I can't speak about bobcats though.

ive been ran over a couple of times while sitting down been hit from behind by a coyote and ive called cats and had two cats within arms reach both cats and dogs when they encounter you will try getting away as fast as you would thats where a shotgun or pistol comes in handy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif but ive never heard of one critter wanting to attack but it will scare the snot out of ya when they bump into ya gets the heart beatin a little harder

Never called in a dog that close but one moon lit night called in the biggest gray feral tom cat that just about jumped in the lap of my partner sitting next to me. While he was dropping his gun and jumping the fence I just raise the rifle and stop the problem. Wish I could get dogs in that close.

The closest I've ever had anything was I had a grey fox run past the caller and jump over my leg while heading back into the woods. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I've had a cow elk sniff my boot while I sprayed cow scent into her face, course the bull hung out a ways behind and didn get him to come that close. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
A friend of mine got knocked to the ground about 2 years ago by a bobcat while calling turkeys in the spring. He said the thing blind sided him when he moved his head. He said it knocked the air out of him not too mention he needed a new pair of britches! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Had one jump over me about 3 weeks ago...never saw it until it was in mid air jumping over my right arm and nearly landed on my gun...good thing my buddy was ready because I was FLUSTERED!!! IF I was going to get chomped, that would have been the time.

i had a red fox coming up a draw. i was laying across a rock with the rifle watching him. i had one knee up with my elbow resting on it.
i saw movement out of the corner of my eye. a red was standing on the rock i was laying across. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif it jumped down onto my knee and ran to my right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif,i ran left. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gifnever got a shot off at either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
the first coyote i ever had come to a call when i was a kid jumped over the log i was resting agenced right over my shoulder /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. i have been hooked ever scence.
hawks are more dangerous i have had them hit me in the head while calling. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
last year while elk hunting i had two bulls coming /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif,my cousin was at full draw waiting for one bull to step out from behind a tree /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gifwhen the other came in from behind bent over and sniffed his face then it blew snot all over his face. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
after that i asked mike" what isn't this----------------close enough" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
one other time mike and i were calling bobcat mike was around a rock from me i just started calling when mike walked up and said "whats the chances of calling up a secound cat?" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif he had felt a breeze on his neck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif and when he turned a bobcat was sitting right behind him the breeze was the cats breathing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
