Snows crunchy, now what?

Well after a few warm days, the top layer of snow is very cruchy. When you walk it sounds like a bull moose in a china shop. Will this scare away any yotes? Does anybody have any tips on quiteing down the crunching? Thanks!

Man cruchy snow has trashed so many attempted morning sneaks on me. You can try tiping your steps into the snow, but in the end you will make noise. Whats worse is when there is no weather noise to help drown it out. I say take a wizz bottle and your thermos with your gear and just get to where you want to be, you might be parked for a while.

The other morning I was tring to sneak into a twenty acre lot before light. It sounded like I was walking on corn flakes. Last night I was thumbing thru my cabelas looking for a solution.

That night after the snow crusted over I walked around in two pairs of extra hvy wool socks which did reduce the sound considerably.I'm thinking about ordering neoprene socks out of cabelas in addition and packing my boots in. I dont have a far walk to most of my spots.

Went to a seminar on yote calling and the speaker was perplexed at being able to call yotes in after breaking crust. I think in smaller lots which I hunt it is a problem.

When the snow gets crunchy I try to let the coyote do the walking. They will come farther on hard drifts than soft snow, just because it is easier going. Deep soft snow is harder for both man and beast to get around in, but is a lot quieter. It is easy to set up closer. It kind of averages out, and is better than staying home either way!

I'm not a big guy, so if theres a good crust on the snow I can walk on top of it like the coyotes do. This may sound wierd but what I try to do if I can't walk on top of it is try to sound like something else other than the 2 legged crunch, crunch, human that I am, smaller quicker steps or something to make me sound 4 legged, and I stop more often, I guess kinda like a deer walkin in and stopping to look around before it moves on. I really don't know how effective this will be or if I'm just wasting my time. I just like it better when I can walk on top of the snow, Being light has it's advantages.
