Just figured I would show off the recent horn howler I just finished up!
Buddy of mine found some half polished horns in an auction and passed em on to me. Did some experimenting with the cocobolo mouthpiece and it worked out pretty good! Was planning to test out some engraving on this one but I chickened out šŸ˜‚

Like it! Looks good, Brad. I recently purchased a horn howler (Rick Robbins) and the thing rips. I didn't have one, so why not? Lol... I guess I never knew how much the horn amplifies the sound. I can see where volume can be useful in certain situations, but the shear size of these things will probably be the deciding factor in whether or not is sees much field time. I've not had problems attracting coyotes to howlers of a more compact size, so will continue to use those as my goto's. Might break out the horn from the truck on occasion just to see what's around?

Honestly, i dont use dedicated howlers much. Like the looks but am drawn more to those who take the time to prefect the mouth pice from the horn itself. Just always liked that look.
The exception would be the howlers made by Rich Higgins.

I know I totally agree the horn does wonderful things for the volume and sound quality but the size of the call makers it tricky to take on day to day hunting.
If I lived in high wind areas or hunted lots of windy days I would be packing one on a few stands for sure! The horn howlers produce a pretty decent cow elk call so I may sling one for bowhunting season.

Il admit I'm also more partial to the compact options but I sure love working with horn and it makes for some beautiful calls!
I am actually currently perfecting my one piece call making skills right now.
Most of my toneboards are designed and cast by myself but there's something deeply personal about the one piece design so next batch of horn I'm hoping to make all in one piece.
