Fellas I'm finally slowly putting together my first ar just put the lower together that had for two yrs.
Anyway really having trouble deciding what stock to lean towards just a basic rifle looking stock, but I also really would like something like the Magpul prs or like the luth
AR modularr ones because of higher cheek piece but there also heavier.also I see complaints of charge handle but why would it be made if can't use cheek piece.
I'm really confused because I want a hunting rifle 20" maybe .223wylde hoping, not carbine length so don't know my choices, or understand if need milspec or commercial?buffer etc? I just want the better of the choices.
Please help sort this out would like to get on order to have that part donewith.so lost
then research uppers and bolts.

The regular A2 stock is an excellent stock. If you are a shorter fella you can get the A1 stock. It is 1/2-3/4 inches shorter. Then get the rifle buffer weight.

The Vltor A5 (system) gets good reviews in the adjustable stock department. This one comes with its own proprietary buffer weight

I have 2 rifle length AR's, and like the A1 or A2 factory stocks.

Everybody is different though.

I have found the Tubbs springs to be superior. IMO. (link below)

For a hunting AR that will be carried, I think you will find the PRS to be heavy. Sounds like a standard A2 stock with rifle length buffer/spring will serve you well.

With fixed stocks like the A2, A1, PRS, etc., the receiver extension is standard, you only need to be concerned with Mil Spec and/or Commercial sizes when it comes to carbine length extensions for stocks like the ACS, STR, etc.

If you are looking for the adjustability then I would go with the Luth. I have the PRS on 3 of mine and they are heavy. But one of the last ones that I built had the Luth MBA and it is a whole lot lighter than the Magpul PRS stock and still has a bunch of adjustability build into it. And as far as the charging handle goes I never have had an issue with the stocks interfering with it. Also as far as milspec or commercial just make sure that You get the one that matches the stock. Milspec stock takes a milspec buffer tube. Commercial stock take commercial buffer tube. Hope this helps.

Why not get a Magpul MOE Rifle Length stock? Affordable, and alot nicer than an A2, LOP can be added to with an additional spacer pad...i love mine. Comfortable, nithing to snag and zero rattles.

Magpul Moe is Def one I like also,I cannot see on Magpul site which tube it takes.
On the luth site it just says standard tube??
So I get confused on standard.
Cause I don't know what I'm doing should I just buy it in a kit if available, not knowing in buffer and such.
Plus sure would have to buy the locking nut deal too.

The ubr gen2 is cool but that's carbine

The fixed MOE stock requires the STANDARD receiver extension, rifle length spring and buffer. There is no mil spec vs. commercial sizes.

Once again, you only need to concern yourself with mil spec/commercial tubes and stocks when using a carbine length set up like a 6-position tele-stock, Magpul STR/CTR, ETC.

This is a RIFLE EXTENSION and is used with the RIFLE LENGTH SPRING & BUFFER. It simply screws into the back of the receiver and is tightened into place where it holds the buffer retaining pin in place. The face of the actual stock being attached presses against the rear takedown spring to capture it, and the stock is actually attached to the extension via a screw in the rear.

There is only ONE SIZE/TYPE

Use this with the MagPul MOE Fixed Rifle Stock, standard Military A1 or A2 stocks, the PRS, or the LuthAR. The standard A2 stock requires a spacer as the A1 is shorter.

This is a CARBINE STOCK extension and is used with a CARBINE SPRING/BUFFER. Note is has a couple more parts. The extension screws into the receiver enough to capture the buffer retaining pin/spring but is locked into place with the lock ring, the receiver plate presses against the rear takedown spring keeping it in place.

These come in two sizes, Mil Spec and Commercial. Make sure the stock and extension match.

Use this for the collapsible type stocks such as the STR, CTR, MOE, etc.
