Sound Volume

I just got my fist Foxpro (firestorm) and I call in open to semi open country and was curious to see if there are any suggestions as to what volume setting I should use. Thanks for the help

I'm sure there is no real answer to this question. I think it all depends on the type of country, the wind, how far apart your making your stands. There are a ton of variables that factor into how loud to play your call.

I personally start out real soft, work my way up a little at a time. Your probably just gonna have to go out and play with it for a while to actually see what works best for you and your area. Good luck.

One thing that I've noticed when calling in the open lately is that if it's too loud they have a tendency to bug out. I've seen them leave when they're over a mile away. Some of it may be that they've been called before, at least that's my theory. I've had really good luck keeping the volume low, it sounds more realistic and if you want to reach out, use a hand call once in a while over the quieter e-call. I've had coyotes come from a long way away even with the call down low. Their hearing is just amazing.

If they are over a mile away and they leave it is not because the volume is too loud.

Coyotes are not always close to you and they are not always in a perfect spot to hear your caller. If you don't crank up your caller to full blast a few times during the stand you are not covering as much ground with your calling as you will be when you do use full volume.

If nothing else use low volume like most people preach for ten minutes. Then put the caller on full volume for 5 minutes and see what happens.
