Sources For Sounds?

Where do the different call companies get their sounds from? Some tapes that I hear sound very realistic like it is an actual critter in distress. Yet there are others that sound like it's no more than a recording of someone blowing (badly might I add!) on a hand call.

I've tried tapes from two different companies now and the difference in quality was as apparent as night and day. I don't know if I would be violating any MB rules by posting names, so I won't....

BobNY,
I would buy tapes from Johnny Stewart or Burnham Bros. Most of their tapes are actual sounds of animals or birds in distress. I can't recall ever getting a bad tape from either of these companies.

I guess to be more specific, tapes/sounds like "Coyote Killing Fawn" for example, do they turn a coyote loose in a pen with a fawn after teasing it a bit and record it or are these sounds just typically a generic fawn bawl with inserted coyote barks in the recording?(repetitive fawn bawl, coyote bark, fawn bawl, coyote bark, etc...) The one tape that I heard like this there was NO agression or anything to make it sound "realistic" or what you would expect to hear from a predator killing it's prey. I didn't know if they were all like this or if it just happened to be the guy that made the brand(Dennis Kirk) of tape that I bought.

Bob...

You’ve got to be careful because some sources of sounds are made more with the intention of luring the money out of your pocket, rather than luring predators to you. It is very easy to take one sound and mix it with another.

I’ve done a lot of it self, with the help of my laptop and some freebie software and the sky is limit for new sounds. When you see titles like, “Coyote killing doe while in rainstorm,” I won’t touch them myself.

I can testify that the sounds offered by outfits like Johnny Stewart, and ProSound Fx, are the real deal; and not something recorded at the local zoo.

Some folks will stop at nothing to obtain new sounds. I heard a story where a guy recorded a box full of puppies and then labeled it Coyote Puppies In Distress and couldn’t make the tapes fast enough.

It's always best to stick with a proven provider of distress sounds.....

A friend and i went to a local game farm , and recorded several different species of birds in distress. As well as fallow deer , and sheep, goats , etc . So far they have been producing coyotes via the Fox Pro caller . I simply had John Dillon @ Fox Pro load them . Thats the one thing i love about the caller . I can record my own sounds , and have sounds no one else has . Not the same old fake sounding distress sounds , but real screaming . Later Jerry .

If you call them they will come-- FOX PRO.

Hey Azwill, I made one of those puppy tapes too. It turned out really good but there are two spots I need to edit where you can hear the windchimes on my porch. LOL Coyotes don't seem to mind though.

Jerry, you are starting to make me lose sleep at night talking about your new sounds and all.
