Sportsman Warehouse CLOSED

Thought I would post this information and save any So Cal guys a drive to the Victorville, Ca store.

I went into the store yesterday and saw they had no weapons out, I also saw sad faces on more than one store employee.

Unexpected by all, Sportsman Corporate office decided to close the Victorville store after being open for only 4 months.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

80 folks got their pink slip...So after today, their doors will be locked.

I for one was very glad to see a store of this size up here with a decent selection of guns and reloading components.

Sad after all the money they dumped into remodeling the building they bought. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Back to driving down the hill to BassPro and mail ordering supplies. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was a sudden move Ken... Just last week we scheduled two seminars with them for the end of the month and then yesterday we got this news from the GM. Really unfortunate.

I think store location and the local economy was behind the decision.

bad time to open an outdoor retail store

Cabelas scratched plans for a new store near Denver

still putting in infrastructure but they postponed the building start date indefinably

Be interesting to see if they still open the new SW here in Visalia, scheduled for Nov 1st. Only other SW is in Rocklin, above Sacramento. BPS opens today in Manteca though, but that's 125 miles for me.

Coupled with the economy, location and having to worry about California guns laws and regulations (stressful) is probably why it happened.

Like any retailer that deals in discretionary spending, SW is in trouble. In today's economy, people are going to spend on only those items they really need.

That's true at my house, the only items I really needed lately was a Cooper M38 17FB and the Leupold scope that's on it. Oh, and don't forget the Benchmark and 20gr. V-Max's.

Sorry, but if we don't keep our humor and our spirits up in times like this we have lost all.

Man that sucks. They just opened a SW about 10 miles from me. I absolutely love it, I mean bigger hunting selection and closer than BPS. Hope it doesn't decide to close the doors.

Theres going to be a Lot of closings coming in the Weeks ahead.....

I Myself have been doged by many setbacks by Loosing other companys we deal with, and the loss of many great Employees who have been with these companys for years....

Its not the time to be Depressed about it, its just another hill we must climb, along with everyone else....to get back on track...

Companys that you Never thought would fold/Close, are going too...

A Lot of People lost a lot of funds out of there 401-k's on there job,in the past few weeks...Me Included..but its like we say at work..its a long term investment, and if your not retiring today, dont worry about it.......

At least the gas prices are on there way down....thats a Happy sign in un-expected times (World Wide)

Have a Great day anyway........

Rick........

I worked for SW. When you have 4-6 thousand dollar days 3-4 times a week it kinda hurts the bottom line. They closed a bunch of non-productive stores.

I talked to a major distributor that supplies Sportsman's Warehouse this weekend & he said the main guy was explaining that there are some stores that are "deadwood" & will never be the producers they thought they should be.

Those stores will close, but those in the strong market areas are thriving, & Sportsman's is in no danger of going under....They are just trimming the hedges a little on a very few stores.

Heard today that our local gun club is going to offer a free pass for the club range to anyone purchasing a new firearm at the new SW Visalia store. Not a free membership, but pass to try out their newbie. Might have some new members doing it that way. This club is the oldest gun club in CA, starting in the late 1800's.

They closed the store here in Goodyear a few weeks ago.

Wow! I knew I spent a lot of money there, but I had no idea that my moving would force them to close their doors. I guess my wife was right.

It wouldn't suprize me if the one here in Henderson that just opened gets shut down. The placed is in a great location but is terminally dead ever time I go in there.

Admittedly, I've quit shopping at SW. Their closest store is about 15 miles from my house. Anymore it seems that 75% of the time they don't have what I want in stock.

One trip was for Lupe 1" medium matte rings. Didn't have them. Then it was Benchmark powder, none; then AA1680, none; Lupe 30mm rings, out; etc, etc. Here in CO their inventory is sad.

At last month's gas prices, a round trip cost me $8.

Anymore I just click on the Midway icon, place my order and its at my front door in three days.

I would hate to see SW close here, but I sure would understand why, if they did.

I was at the SW in Ankeny, Ia yesterday and it looked like it may be next to close. The shelves for reloading components were almost bare. Very little brass, and bullet selection was minimal. The racks were still full of guns but the whole firearms/accessory area was under stocked. There is a new Outdoor World/Bass Pro scheduled to be built near the SW soon. The dirt work is going on now. I would rather shop the SW than the Bass Pro. I hope the SW survives. It is my place to go and hang out while the wife shops. I can spend hours there while the wife goes to crapft shows looking for handcrafts.
This SW in Ankeny also donated big time to our Varmint Matches last year. Gift certificates and hats and pens.
Outlets for firearms and reloading supplies are getting fewer and farther in between. Jim A

I am afraid they'll get alot fewer if Obama gets in. He will be the demise of the outdoors, no matter what segment, be it hunting, fishing or camping. Course, if you're into birdwatching, whale watching, you'll be okay; just have to pay a fee to do it, more than likely.

Just got a call from a friend, who works at Sportman's, and he said that Remington has put them a a COD basis.

If true, that is a bad sign.
