Rant on

When I started getting this catalog a few years ago some good deals could be found. Now that he is getting more and more popular the deals are getting tougher and tougher to find. A lot of the prices are the same or even higher than other places.

Anyhow, what really got me tonight is I just got the "HQ" Gov't Surplus addition of his catalog. On page 18 he is selling the Genuine US military Vietnam Service Medal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

He even says in his discription:

"This medal was issued to US troops for blood, sweat, tears and valor while stationed in Vietnam." !!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif
(sarcasm on) But now it can be yours for just $12.97!(sarcasm off)

What a slap in the face to the Vietnam vets out there and to all Vets for that matter. What's wrong with him?!

I'm sure there's other places a guy can go to buy these medals too but I won't be doing any further business with this outfit. Gary Olsen is supposed to be such a big supporter of the troops and the military, yeah right. I guess if he can make a buck while cheapening someones service than that's more important to him.

Rant off.

The last time I ever ordered from them was when I ordered a pair of boots and told them I had to have a 10 1/2 EE size.they said they had it and would ship it express, cuz that's what I paid for.Mind you I was going on a hunt in a week. The boots come and they are a size 10 d /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.too small,I call up and they could care less /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif,talk to a supervisor,he could care less /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.Sent a message to the owner,he could care less /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif.Never heard back from him and mailed my boots back and got a refund.I called them and told them to never ship me a catalog again. So know I don't have to worry about them screwing me again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.Take care, daveyboy

Don't even get me started on them. My last dealings with them left me quite bitter. I'll never order from them again.

Geez guys, I've been shopping them for years, both catalog and at the store down in South St. Paul, and have been fairly pleased. Looking at all of the stuff in the garage, Mrs. Jackpine isn't nearly as pleased, but that's another story....

The point about the "good deals" being fewer and farther between is something I've noticed also, but as long as a guy pays attention I've not seen any problems. I had a boot sizing issue also, but an e-mail to the customer service people cleared things up nicely, and they even gave me a $10 gift certificate for my trouble. Took a few days longer to get the right boots than I had anticipated, but no big deal.

You've got to admit that the catalogs have entertainment value over and above the items being sold.

As to the original beef about the sale of medals - I agree that it is in poor taste, and is disappointing. Following the trail a bit further though, who did they get the medals from in the first place? Maybe from an auction of surplus military goods? I'm just thinking items such as this should probably not be entering the stream of commerce in the first place.

IIRC it is yellow with some thin red vertical stripes. You see it on a bumper sticker every now and then.

I have one somewhere but could not find it if my life depended on it.
