Squeaker in dog toys...???

So I'm sitting here tonight playing with the dog and I noticed a lot of his toys (that he no longer plays with) have squeakers in them. Has anyone tried using these for predators? The mouse squeakers you buy at Cabelas, etc. are essentially the same thing....Are they not? Sounds like it's time to do some experimenting.

I actually have a buddy who calls in coyotes with a squeaker toy out of a rice krispies box. It works real well for him. Go for it!

I heard somewhere that Byron South uses these squeakers almost exclusively. Any truth to that sir? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I got one taped to my rifle right now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

guess there is some great decoy's there that would be nice on thejack in the box. i make squeaker call's great for cat's. i get the squeaker's at Allpredatorcall.com. Rick

I used to use one all the time. When we would see a fox coming in I would just squeak them in instead of calling. Now I just lip squeak.

Saw an article in Fish-Fur-Game 5 or 10 years ago. In it they discribed making predator calls outta squeaky toys. Made a call and used the insert for a reed.

yes , they do work . I had one for a long time carried it around with me in my pocket until i lost it , need to get another one , they do come in handy..

i made a squeaker from an old haydels 2-in-1 call, one end was a rabbit, the other a squeaker. i quit using this call so i took the squeaker read out and took one of those bulbs w/ the "straw" on the end used to clean out a baby's nose, i called it a booger sucker. anyways i cut off the straw and glued in the squeaker reed. so this essentially cost me nothing, except the original cost of the call and the bulb was free, (my dad is a pharmacist and it was an old one lying around his store)

it works very well, and i think it is a little louder than some of the other squeakers you can buy

One time i was walking in the local mall doing some Xmas shopping, and heard a terrible dying-type sound coming from behind me that made me about jump outta my shoes. It was some little girl that had just bought a toy bugle from the dollar store there. I made a B-line for the store and bought several of them. Hacked off both ends of the bugle to access the reed area, and it made a great predator call. Actually sold an article on it to Trapper and Predator caller titled, "Bugling Coyotes" some years back. Pretty good $5 investment.

Heres another tip, want a great cat squeaker call? We have a store in SA that sells everything under five rand, thats about 80cents. (Maybe you have this toy in USA also) the children play with it, they tip the pipe one way and a unit inside the pipe rolls to the other end and visa versa and it makes a real distressed sound, then all you do is buy one, cut out the end, slide out the unit, its about quarter inch long, and blow in it, its a squeaky sounding call and works well. It has a reed on both ends. So you actually have a dual caller. The unit is made in China as are most toys. Anyway just thought to help.

I remove the squeaker from the $2 dog toys (cut them out) and insert them into the neck of .30 cal. brass, after dremel tool removing the base. They seem to fit perfectly into the neck and make perfect squeakers for close or distance (have called spot and call coyotes at 300 yards) calling. Works on fox also. Hope to be of assistance.

I went to the $1.00 or less aisle at wally word and bought a couple of stuffed dog toys. (after squeaking all of them for the best sound) I paid .88 cents each, then took them out to the parking lot and did a squeakerectomy on them. They are loud enough that I carry one in my pocket and hit it there to stop yotes. And if they get lost I don't really care.

Shameless

Some baby toys have those squeakers also, but you must get the ones with stainless steel reeds, they are far better than plastic ones. I use them in my calls quite often. Insert them in a fuel line. The stainless steel reeds are far more squeaky.

I have seen a predator call company ( dont want to mention who) that has a squeaker, under the call it says, ".....TOYS- made in Italy". I have also seen a USA company that has a call, and on the packet they say made in china, another company that says MADE IN ENGLAND. But its a standard reed part, just in a wooden housing, maybe they made the wood, we all know the reed parts are made in USA right? Anyway, no doubt this is an interesting one for sure.
