I've used a Olt squirrel call for years with great sucess in several states for grey squirrels.I have had them bark at me,come on the run and go throth the trees to reach me.So I know first hand it works and works well! I see no posts or mention of them on here unless I overlooked it? Anyway just was wondering if anyone else uses a squirrel call and what kind? I only used 1 other type and its a call you blow into make a sound like a squirrel in distress.never had no luck with it so i quit using it.I am currently hunting fox squirrels this year and just don't have a good opinion on it yet for them except I have heard em bark back but they might do that with any sound. So whats your experience with gerys and fox squirrels? Bill

I was going to post up the same thing.

I have never used calls for squirrels. I knew that they made them, but have never tried one.

I was going to ask if they worked that well and which ones people like.

I use one of the do-all calls for squirrels. I was going to get the name of the maker, but most of it's worn off and I can't make out what company it is.
It barks and squeals and even does the squirrel distress. It's one of the bulb-type calls and when you shake it, you can do chattering, which sounds like one chasing another. Out of all the different sounds on it, the distress usually works pretty reliably. I guess it hits on the maturnal instinct, but not sure. Whatever it does to 'em, it works. The barks and chattering doesn't seem to do much for them from what I've tried.

I had luck this morning just using a couple 50-cent pieces. Scratch the edge of one across the face of the other.

Ive seen that in action> Don't know why but it drove them nuts but they didnt stay around very long!

i use a primos squirell buste. it is the bulb call, but also does ditress calls. it is really effective if you squeal on the ditress and slap a leafy branch against your leg. it sounds like a hawk getting a baby squirrel, and they go crazy!

I use to have a wooden squirrel call with a bellows. A Western Rivers I think. I really liked that call. I lost it in the woods about 18 years ago. I couldn't find another. So, I bought and now use an Haydel's with the bellows. It has a little squeaker built in to the side. I'm on the second one of those now. That #%$&* Lab pup. I wouldn't trade the Lab or the call. I'm happy.

A buddy of mine had a squirrel call that you could shake and it sounded like a squirrel. He told me that he ordered it from Cabelas.I dont know if it really worked on squirrels or not though. Our English teacher took it away and kept it the first time he took it to class with him.
We were takin a test and it was dead quiet and all of the sudden it sounded like a squirrel was on the loose.

On occasion I've used one. Nevre had em come running to their death, but sometimes they will sqwualk back giving up their location and subsequent demise.

now that would have been funny!

My buddy and I have called in Grey squirrels using a diving duck call. It's hard to find them nowadays, but if you can, most of them sound exactly like a squirell barking. It drives them nuts, gets them barking back and usually running in. I have no idea why a squirrell would run towards a potential danger sound, but they do.

i make a sound kind of like a squirrel bark by sucking on the back of my hand to try and make them bark so i can sneak in on them.

I had one with the bulb on the end, and distress reed on the side. Never had any luck with squirrels, but took bulb off and used like a mouth call and called a coyote the first time out. Second time out when I got to my stand, blew and nothing, the reed had fallen out. I took the distress reed out and put it in an ink pen tube to use as a coaxer.

Hmm I have one of the multipurpose bulb type calls. It was labeled for fox squirrels. I took it out, sat down under a tree and started bouncing it on my leg. Wow here come da squirrels. Grey squirrels too. They came in and sat on the branches above me barking at me. There were several of them and it was such a sight, so I just sat there calling them. They came from all directions, on the run, straight to me. Then i took 7 while they were watching. Don't know why, but I guess they didn't like the Fox squirrel barking.

I think fox squirrels are to lazy to come to a call. My dad used to say " hunting fox squirrels is like hunting house cats. No challenge in it." I took the bulb off mine and used it to call a coyote first time I tried. While walking back to the truck the reed fell out!

I use a squirrel call that is free and very effective. Take and make a fist. It will form a circle betweeen your thumb and index finger. Kiss it and you can move your fingers and cup the other end of your hand to change the tones of your barks. I've called tons of squirrels out of there nests doing this since my dad taught me when I was just a little kid. I even called in a coyote once!
