Staball 6.5 on 17 rem?

Has anyone tried Win staball 6.5 in their 17 rem? The loading data makes it look like a 17 rem is making 17-204 velocity's.
 
Don’t trust any velocity info on the StaBall. I tried it in a 6.5 Creedmoor. It shot real good but velocity was about 200 FPS slower than advertised.
 
I haven’t tried it but have you looked at barrel length on the published data? Consider this,, each gun is different and some have a faster barrel than others. Not talking twist, but gauged or polished, maybe a slight difference in the way the rifling is cut, etc. example: I have 2 different caliber pistols that have Douglas barrels on them and get faster than any published data that I have found. Another thing is do you have another rifle caliber you could possibly use this powder on? I first looked at it because I was told it was good in the 30-06. While Winchester 760 (ball powder) was a staple for the 06, it certainly is temp sensitive. Lay a round in the Sun for awhile while chronographing and you would see. Anyway the point being a ball powder that is at least more stable would be great. I did not find any published data for the 06, on Hodgdon website. Maybe in their magazine of loads. Hodgdon has been known to exaggerate velocities before. Garrett Cartridges and Buffalo Bore ammo both try and publish real world data, in a few guns of each caliber. But keep in mind that is “their cartridges” not hand loads.
Pressure barrels are what most companies use for pressure and velocity data. (large corporations) do not have time nor money to test in field guns. So I can’t feel left out if someone doesn’t have data for my choices.
You may feel the pains of another company just trying to make another dollar. You are not alone.
Feel free to call Hodgdon and talk to a Tech. I have gotten loads and good information from them. They will usually read over notes concerning powder, loads, and unpublished data.
 
Didn't mean to miss lead you there cherokee, I haven't tried it yet. More along the lines of what Reb said above. The data looks crazy good (4100 fps on a 25 gr 3900 on a 30) and it makes me suspisious so I wondered if anyone had tried it in a 17 rem yet. If I can get hold of some I may have to give it a try. Thanks for the responses!
 
Well I got hold of a couple lbs of Staball 6.5 and loaded some up with my 30 gr nagel's. Worked my way up to a full load with no psi signs and out of 3 full loads my junky chrony only gave me 1 reading, it was at 3830fps. I've got a new chronograph on the way and I'll be giving this another shot, I'll be pretty happy with 3800+fps with a 30 grain bullet out of my 17 remington. I'd be interested if anyone else gives it a try.
