stage handle knife

I'm looking at getting a new knife. One of the models I'm looking at has a mule or whitetail deer horn for the handle. Does anybody know if these kind of handles hold up for a long time or are they more for looks.

Unless you throw 'em knife handles don't generally have a tendency to wear out. Now as a handle making material. Stag handles carry a quiet sort of dignity that only a natural material can. The various ribbers out there are probably superior in there ability to mantain a good gripping surface but don't have near the class that a bone, wood, stag or stacked leather handle does. I like stag even the plastic stag, but mostly the natural.

One note to add here. Antler material from a whitetail is not stag. Indian/sambar stag is getting fairly hard to get and pretty expensive. Whitetail or elk antler isn't the same composition and is much cheaper. Stag and bone may shrink or split if not cared for properly. An overnight soak in Mineral Oil once a year, then a complete wipe down will prolong the life and help prevent shrinking or splitting. FYI.

Personally i like stag horn handles. I use a knife the same as below but without the black logo on the blade:

I have used it for several years and have had no problems with the handle material.
