I've been doing quite a bit of work with decoy dogs lately. I've always went overboard when it comes to dogs and seem to accumulate quite a few, soon as the wife turns her head.
Here are a couple of new pups (Dixie and Brandy) that I acquired from fellow PM members. The blonde is a Mountain Cur from Wackmaster out of Colorado. Great bloodlines out of a host of decoy dogs. Even at a very young age, she can't help but put a tooth into coyotes. The brindle is a Mountain Cur / Jagd cross from Devin69 out of Colorado, as well. She's showing a bunch of grit and a phenominal nose at a young age.
Here they are working over some coyotes that I was trying to get skinned, this morning. I was working on skinning one, when I looked over and saw the pups roughing up these. I grabbed the camera and snapped some pics. They've been around quite a few dead ones, since they've been here and have already gain quite a hatred for them. They gone from baying to mouthing them, just in the past week or so. Both of these females show great prospects and will be joining Gunner in the field, when they get some more age under them.
Dixie and Brandy getting ahold. They don't quite know that it's already been dead for a few hours.
Brandy destined to drag the coyote by the tail.
Brandy showing no fear and doing her best to tear into that coyote.
After all that action (and a bath), it's time to take a good nap.
If they turn out as good as they appear to be, they'll not only be joining Gunner in the field, but the breeding program, as well.
Gunner on stand.
Gunner has been doing very well his first season and did some night calling with us last night. We called up 16 coyotes and Gunner got to work a few of them, let alone making recovery at night way, way, way easier. He's now up to 189 coyotes under his belt, at 11 months old. (Yeah, I'm kind of proud of him.
)
Thought I'd share.
