Steiner Binocular Opinions

I'm in the market for a new set of compact binoculars. I don't know why, because I have a perfectly great set of Leupolds now that I've used for about 25yrs. But since I'm not the sensible type...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Anyway, I've been looking at the Steiner Wildlife 8.5X26 binoculars and was wondering about the pro's and con's of these. The price range and power range is what I'm in the market for.
Has anyone had any experience with these?

I bought the 8x30 military/marine in July. I like them, especially since they are not coated. I can see much better in the dawn and dusk light. It took me two years to decide on which brand of binoculars and haven't regretted buying Steiners. They can be found at Cabela's and Natchez.

I've been using the Steiner Predators for about three years and I love them. They are great for low light conditions and for finding hidden game animals.Great binoc for the money.

I like Steiners for the constant focus it is great. I also prefer 8x30 as a minimum for the larger exit pupil( more light). We have used both the military marine and hunting versions. The military marine style have round eyecups that are easier to utilize. The side blinder style often rotate causing a holdup especially when in a hurry or for people who wear glasses.

Just wondering if any of you guys have compared the Steiners to Swarvoski? I really like the looks of the Steiners and if they compare to Swarvoski then I'm very interested in them.

Thanks for the feed back. Looks like no one has the Steiner Wildlife models. I went ahead and ordered some, so we'll see how the compare to my old Leupolds.

We have compared Steiner Marine to Swarovski in the field. They both picked up elk at great distance before daylight. We also had Leica's and a couple other brands on that hunt but those were the three that were producing results. Steiner has many many models in different price points and quite different warranty periods. Some 1 year and 2, 5, 10, and finally some with lifetime warranty. USA Leica's and Swarovski's have lifetime warranty. I have never had Leica service but several friends have used Swarovski warranty with excellent results. I would not hesitate to buy any one of these three brands. Steiner would probably have the lowest resale value. Good Luck.

That's good to hear tripod3. I don't know what the warranty is on the Wildlife Pro's, but if they are any where's near my Leupolds and the experience you've had with Steiners, then I will be quite happy.

I've had the 8x30 marines for 10+ years and love the fixed focus. They do not have a very good warranty. I dropped mine on concrete once and got the 2 lens out of focus. They offered me a refurbished pair for around $100 and I have had those for many years. Stay in my truck all the time and have made many trips hunting prarie dogs, elk, antelope, etc. I would buy another pair just for the instant focus feature alone. Good glass too. I wrap rubberbands around the lens adjustment area to keep the focus from moving and then mark paint marks on the lens and bino body to have a fast focus in case they get bumped. I think you'll like them.
