Stiller Predator Action?

For those of you who have built a custom rig on the Stiller Predator action I’d like your input. Looking to make a command decision after the 1st of the year on what action to base the build.

Thanks to all.

I have built several varmint rifles on Predator actions. After 18 years of trueing Rem, Win and Sav actions, I have to say that the Stiller Predator is one of the best deals out there. They, along with Phoenix Machine, offer a trued, custom action for the price of a Rem that has been blueprinted. Hard to beat.

Stillers are okay. Surgeon is better. A trued and sleeved 700 is easily as good as any Predator IMO.

Take a Predator action, point the bolt face up at ceiling, and then see if the action binds or not when you try to close the bolt........

I have 3 predators in my shop at this time. None of them binds up when holding the action vertical.
There are many custom actions that are better than Predators. They all cost nearly twice as much. BAT, Farley, Rimrock, Stolle, Phoenix Machine, Hall, RFD and Meyer are all excellent actions and, the price reflects that. The beauty of the predator is, that you get a custom action for a semi-custom action price.

Over on sniper hide a gunsmith with the name of Pete Lincoln claims that the howa actions are better than remington and almost as good as a predator. He really talkes them up!! Now if i could find a good stock for one i would buy one. Lee

Sounds like a pretty good way to drum up business by being one of the very, very, very few smiths who will gladly work on them. Good move, create a niche and be right there to provide the service to fill it...

But, then again, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif what do I know???

That's good. Apparently Jerry listened to us. They are decent actions, just had some "issues" for a while.....

I purchased one of the first Pred. actions, i never had any binding or any other problems with it.
The Pred action has tighter tolerences than a Rem 700 but not as tight as a BR action so you have to keep that in mind and keep the action a little cleaner..
You could take a 700 action and true it up and sleeve it, but you will have the same amount of money tied up in it or maybe more.
Anyway the Pred action is a good action for the money and i'll buy another one if and when i decide to build another rifle.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've no problem with them, but can tell you they are made to tighter tolerances now than they used to be. Could even dig up text of jerry Stiller saying as much. They used to be a bit sloppy, but then again, too tight a tolerance in a hunting action can be a bad thing......
