stock removal

I'm wanting to add a little color to my ar and am planning on painting the handguard, grip and stock. I know how to remove the first two but how do I go about removing the actual stock while leaving the buffer tube in place? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Josh

If its an A2 stock there should be a long screw holding it on there, just take it out and it slides off. If you have an adjustable one, you take the peice that you would normally squeeze and push it outward away from the buffer tube.

I have the adjustable stock and when you get to the furthest adjustment it won't let you go any farther. There is a little pin that looks like it holds the part you squeeze in place and I'm wondering if I remove that pin if it will allow me to pull it all the way off. I've just never done it before and don't want to tear something up

I may not be doing something right. I have fully squeezed the lever and adjusted it forward and backwards several times. I can pull it a little past the last notch and then it catches on something. I'll give it another try when I get home. Thanks for the help.

PULL the Squeeze lever. Opposite direction of how you squeeze to adjust length.

Hold your rifle as you would when shooting, adjust the stock all the way out to the rear (by your shoulder). The squeeze part will PULL down. As far as it will go, then pull the stock off the tube.

Makes sense now. I went back through and read all the replies and that's what everyone has said to do but for some reason I wasn't thinking and had my mind set on squeezing the lever. I appreciate all the comments. Thanks.
