Stretching Board?

Any recommendations to a novice on a good / reasonably priced stretching board? Are the wire ones any good? I appreciate any input. Thanks, and good huntin'

I only stretch muskrats on wire, everything else on wood. If you want more money for your fur, use wood and use the dimensions of the major fur houses.

What does wood do to the fur to make it better than what a wire stretcher does?
I have been looking at buying a couple wire stretchers as they will take up less space in my garage. Less clutter makes the wife happy.

Wood give the fur a fuller look from the side view. Also when pinned out things just look alot more uniform. It doesnt make the fur any better, just changes the appearence when your looking at it. Fur buyers pay on quality and appearence. Look at most high dollar well put up fur and it will be on wood. I use wood on cats and my better looking coyotes. Wire on the rest of my coyotes.

If you use wire, be sure that there is adequate airflow up inside the pelt. Wire is not porous like wood is and I have found that using wire will cause slippage where the wire is. It is also hard to keep the pelt at the dimensions the fur houses want on wire because they aren't rigid. Just my experience though, wood stretchers will pay for themselves in the gains you will see from the fur buyer.

Thanks for the information. I will look at the local store here and see what they have for stretching boards. I need to pick up a fleshing board and a fleshing knife as well. Any recommendations?
