Stud Fee ?

Won't name any names, but I had a guy off the board telling me if we bred our Kemmerer Mt Curs he would want his choice of two pups or a $450.00 stud fee, sounds pretty crazy to me, he claims his dog has done it for at least 4 other guys anyone here know them, he wouldn't give me references! WE tried to breed them once before and his dog didn't have any idea what he was doing!

I always thought the standard fee was pick of the litter or the price of the pup.

But even if it was free i would want a proven stud.

Sometimes the dogs act like that, but trust me, they usually figure it out.
When I studded my Akita, Stud fee was usually either pick of the litter or the going sale price of one pup. Usually around $300- $350. I didn't usually collect until 6 weeks after the pups were born. That was just because I was nice and I wanted to give the otherperson time to collect money to pay me either through sales or deposits. My dog was AKC papered, but his hips had not been checked. I studded him for pet quality dogs only(not for show dogs) although his pedegree was rather nice.

Well, the guy got offended and says no way now anyway, guess he thought he would take advantage of me somehow! Had another guy with a male that said he wanted to try it, but haven't heard back from him, any Utah guys with a good male out there ? She won't be in heat for a whole long time so it needs to be quick !

Utahdogger sounds like you are better off if he backed out!! some times just kennel them up and walk off and leave them for a few mins!!
I have done that a few times and worked great!!
Pick of the litter or price of a pup is what i have heard most the time!!

Pic of the litter or price of the pup is standard. I have never heard of what this guy is offering, especially if you already tried his dog and he couldn't get it done. I would think of holding off until her next cycle, and make arrangements with another male cur. Remember you'll get what you pay for. Don't rush into breeding your female to just anything. You want to have the GOOD traits into your bloodlines. I would talk to Mike Grainger, if you haven't seen his dog in action you should, plus he lives in Montana I think. Maybe he could mail you some, um.......better batter, and go thru a vet.

When we did rott's. references were a must and papers on 3 bloodlines of the stud dog.

We work it out where he would get the pick up the litter and pay for the first shots and that would be it.

It was a good arangment for us and him.I don't know if this was the correct way to do it or not but it worked for us

Just curious but why would he want to breed it to your dog the only thing she has ever seen is your housecat when she was cuddling on the couch with it.

Why would you want to breed a dog that is so young? No offense meant but your dog has not matured enough at 1 to have a litter. She should be at least 2 years old to have her first litter. The reason for this is it lets you see the adult temperment of the dog, make sure their are no genetic health problems, and also what kind of hunter she is going to be. I am assuming of course that you would trey to market the pups as hunting curs, and not just lapdogs.

Maggie has been on coyotes now, and her ancestry includes Frye and Taylors dogs, I think she has excellent bloodlines, I'm in no rush to breed her, tried once before with the nameless guy, his dog had no idea what to do, but we agreed we would try it again, when I told him he would get one pick of the litter, he started all this other nonsense, I guess if he reads this he will see he was in the wrong.

WEll, thanks for the response guys, I figured he was up in the night, only got one other guy that was interested, but he is too far away, may never actually breed her if I don't find someone with a male and common sense close by!
