I just got my suppressor back in Feb. I mounted it on a 18 inch 223 AR 15. Took it to the range and this thing is LOUD not hearing safe at all ! Ive been told to try an adjustable gas block or a heavier buffer tube and gas buster charging handle. Has anybody had this problem and are these valid solutions ?

Thanks Bob

A- what can is it? B- slow powder? C- did you compare it with/without can? Gas buster will slightly reduce gas in face (but not noise), same can be done with a rib of RTV. Buffer tube won't matter, heavier buffer will keep it locked a bit longer, but will always have certain amount of noise out of ejection port/sound of gun cycling. Some cans are just not very good.

The can that I have is a Banish 30 and all of the suggestions that I listed came right from Silencer Central. I just wanted to check around before spending more money if it wont fix the problem. I know its never going to be movie quiet but I had hoped for at least hearing safe quiet. I watch all of the big name coyote guys on You Tube with the same set up and there is no comparison.

I run a Banish 30 on a 16" AR with Superlative Arms Piston drive and adjustable gas block. It sounds about like a 22 lr. I also run it on a 6x45 20" AR with a Superlative arms adjustable gas block, and on a Savage bolt-action 22-250 with an 18" barrel, and finally on a Ruger Predator in 243 with 22" barrel. To me, I can't tell much difference in any of them. I would say the two bolt-actions may be slightly quieter to my ear, because I hear the action cycle on the ARs, but downrange I'm not sure there is any difference to what the coyotes hear. I wouldn't even bother to go hunting without it.

The Banish should be quiet. I have a SIG SRD on my 20", sounds like a 22 rifle. The SIG is a rather small can, actually just over .300" through the baffles, so the Banish should be quieter. Have someone stand off to side & listen to difference with/without.

Yea not all suppressors are created equal too. Some work better with ARs than others.

Need specific details on AR being used. I ran a Banish 30 on an 18" Mid-length gas with an adjustable gas block that was very quiet, pleasant with no ear pro.

I have a Sig 556, full auto rated. It is not as quiet as my 300 Harvestor, on the first shot. With fresh gases in it follow up shots are a bit quieter. If I run the Harvestor on my 18" carbine, bystanders say it sounds like a 10/22 and I hear the buffer and shot impact on prairie dog, coyote, raccoon. No adjustable gb. I still wear foam ear plugs at the range(and headphones if there is other shooters). Protect your ears, that's what this is about.

The ole port pop. Turn gas down some will help a little. Barrel length and load pressure are bigger factors. I run a brass goat top piece, helps.

Have you shot that suppressor on anything else besides the AR? Maybe something wrong with the suppressor.

Mine are hearing safe with 2 different cans on several uppers in 223, 300BO and 6.8 SPC
