Yeah, but you were enjoying the prestige that comes with having a "tactical" flashlight, not a normal one. I spent some time researching flashlights to mount on my gun, and ultimately came to the conclusion that a $25 Coleman LED flashlight would probably perform just as well as a $$$$ "tactical" flashlight from the usual suspects. I was right - so far the Coleman has endured being dropped all the time, left out in sub-zero temps, and being left in the on position until the AA battery wore out on countless occassions, with zero ill effects.
I think too many people fall victim to "tactical gear syndrome" and shell out way too much cash for everyday stuff. We're not talking MRI machines here, we're just talking a lamp and a battery - if you can get a handheld communicator (cell phone) for $25 it's not that big a stretch to expect to find a good flashlight for the same amount of money
