Survival knife

Cold Steel used to make great knives but I have not handled one in recent years.

The old standby Gerber LMF is not a bad knife for a reasonable price...

ESEE makes great knives with probably the best warrenty there is. I have the Ka-Bar and while it is a good knife they are a little more prone to breaking at the blade handle junction because it narrows down so much. Either way you will get a good knife. Then there is always the custom route and you can get exactly what you want going this way.

I actually ordered for myself

. If I like it I will buy another for a gift.

Got my new CRKT. Ultima knife today. Looks great very sharp feels well made. But the blade says made in Taiwan. I thought the website said Tualatin, Oregon. I thought I was buying an American made knife. Oh well

Found this

"***CRKT RESPONSE CRKT is a family owned/operated Oregon company that provides over 30+ jobs right here in Tualatin, Oregon. Founder Rod Bremer has graciously guided this company to stand for quality, innovation, and value at a competitive price. We manufacture overseas in China and Taiwan much like Apple, Nike (Oregon), Columbia Sportswear (Oregon), and many other great American companies. One important note about CRKT is that we are not foreign owned. We are locally owned; any and all of CRKT company profit generated stays here locally in the U.S. It's a global economy at this point and all of us here at CRKT in customer service, QC quality control department, corporate office, shipping, receiving, operations and IT (yes...IT is right here with us) are very grateful to have jobs to provide for our families and contribute to the local economy here in Oregon and the United States."

I guess I should researched it a little better. Glad I did not spend a huge amount on it. Love and learn.

love my gerber LMF, a little price but i do a lot of wilderness survival training/outtings. i did finally find its weak point though. i was out for 3 days and was making some firewood with it and was trying to split a 6" wide oak log that was left at a checkpoint and i set the gerber on it and was hammering away with a good sized stick and got the handle a little to close to the log and cracked the plastic piece surrounding the blade. it just rattled a little but kept on ticking until i got back out. a little guerilla glue and good as new. depends on your price range though. set me back about $100 but still got it about 4 years later after tons of abuse.

I think if you are looking for the Best, then I would look no further than a "Randall Made" knife... They were originally designed for Vietnam Special Ops.. Handmade in Florida, and are still handmade in Florida.. The wait after order is over 5 yrs, but the prices are very reasonable for a custom knife that will never let you down.. If in a hurry for one they can be found new and used on Ebay.. Prices not so great however.

Yep, if you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime knife for a special gift, a Randall would be hard to beat.
